After Kermit the Frog decides to pursue a movie career, he starts his cross-country trip from Florida to California. Along the way, he meets and befriends Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy, Gonzo and rock musicians Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. When Kermit is offered a job by Doc Hopper (Charles Durning) to advertise the fried frog legs at his restaurant chain, Kermit turns Hopper down. However, Hopper refuses to relent and pursues Kermit and his companions to a final showdown.

Jolson sang, Barrymore spoke, Garbo laughed, and now Kermit the Frog rides a bicycle... If you can figure out how they were able to show Kermit pedaling across the screen, then you are less a romantic than I am: I prefer to believe he did it himself.

The Muppets film debut is a wonderful musical comedy road adventure with real heart. Kermit and the gang are right at home on the big screen, delivering one liners with the precision of Hope & Crosby, and singing unforgettable songs, most notably the Oscar nominated "Rainbow Connection". Look for some hilarious cameos throughout, as well.

I know most people really love this movie but I don't see it as a masterpiece. Just a very well-made road film. Maybe I just preferred the 2011 film's meta-commentary, I don't know. But anyway, The Muppet Movie is a fun all-ages adventure with a ton of funny moments, memorable guest stars, catchy songs and great visual effects that I'm sure must've been downright groundbreaking at the time. It's a bit corny, sure and I found the jokes more amusing than sending me into hysterics but I can see appeal of The Muppet Movie. Not just an entertaining road film but also a pretty good origin story for the iconic comedy troupe.
