We exchanged a Virgin Experience token for a stopover at Shrigley. Wonderful Spot in the Peak District, Shrigley Hall is a fine old building with golf course and very active spa.
The hotel is characterised by its numerous, very young staff who set the scene for the stay...The hotel clearly values and emphasises its status as a spa, although I didn't use theae facilities in the one night stopover.
Room was, in fairness rather dated with old plumbing, unattractive tiles and spartan furniture leaving me to wonder whether development as a spa had been done at the expense of general refurbishment.

Hello Caderidris1 Thank you for the review - you're correct - we are located in a wonderful part of the world so glad that you enjoyed your visit We have a great golf course and a fabulous new spa, so a lot of our marketing is based around these two facilities. Unfortunately the pandemic slowed down the refurbishment of our bedrooms. We're looking forward to this commencing again in the future. Thank you again for visiting Shrigley Hall

We stayed here a few weeks ago, when we left we made a complaint and was told someone would contact us, no ones ever contacted us since we left. Most of the staff were really rude and not interested in helping. The spa needs a revamp, mold everywhere. the bedrooms were filthy, dust everywhere. The food was lovely but didn't make up for all the bad things on the trip. I would have given no star but there wasn't an option. Don't waste your money.

Extremely poor customer service.
I was charged for a room booking when I had official confirmation from the reservations team that it had all been cancelled. They eventually admitted fault , but I now have to wait upto 5 days for a refund that was their own mistake.

Not received one apology and tried to speak to management to express my concern , however I was told they were ‘too busy’ to speak or call me back.

I’ll think twice now about recommending or visiting in the future .

Good morning k8tsmith, This was a genuine error and has been rectified. The Reservations team have obviously been incredibly busy over the past few weeks and mistakes do occur, which we apologise for. This is not an excuse, but it is a shame that you headed to Trip Advisor and reviewed us, without actually staying at the hotel. I do hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you in the future and am sure that you will have a very pleasant stay with us. KInd regards,

Beautiful hotel. Staff were very helpful especially Guilten on reception, nothing was too much trouble for her.

The bedrooms and hotel were spotless.

We stayed 1 night on a dinner bed and breakfast package and upgraded to the early morning spa access the following morning. I’d definitely recommend upgrading , the spa was fab and the 2 hour slot was plenty of time to relax before breakfast.

Will be definitely booking again !

Thank you for a lovely stay

I booked for a surprise present for my parenters 30th Birthday. Overall the stay was lovely and we really enjoyed it!

The afternoon tea was lovely. The spa was beautiful clean and just a lovely afternoon. The outdoor bit was our favourite and the customer service was fab! It wasn't over crowded and there was just the right amount of people for the space.

The evening meal was nice not much choice on the set menu but the food was very tasty!

The room we stayed in was a standard double it was abit out dated and does need some updating. It was just very worn and not the cleanest. The bed wasn't the comfiest and very squeaky on the slightest movement. This did let down our overall experience.

The breakfast was OK - not much choice for the continental apart from 2 varieties of Cereal and a yogurt. I did expect a little more from the breakfast after such a lovely afternoon tea and evening meal.

I would definitely visit the spa again maybe for a day visit as appose to an overnight stay or perhaps we would pay for a feature room in hope it would be a more positive experience.

Booked to stay in the feature room for one night and the room was lovely. Beautiful tree feature over the bed, really nice stand alone bath. The TV remote didn't work and the shower didn't drain well so spilled over into the rest of the bathroom area. A bit disappointing.

The package came with dinner and breakfast, both of which were good and had one or two halal/veggie options. Be sure to book in advance of your stay to get a suitable time for both meals.

The spa area looked lovely but was so busy it wasn't something we chose to use. Treatments were booked for 2 weeks beyond our stay so again be sure to book if you want something. A good stay, maybe not worth the amount paid but maybe would be worth it if the spa wasn't so busy.

Good afternoon AElham, Thanks you for visiting Shrigley Hall & lovely to read that you enjoyed the experience of room 211! It always generates great feedback but we'll obviously look into your comment regarding the shower. The spa is very popular, the new outdoor infinity pool is a huge drawer, especially on sunny days & treatments do book up far in advance. Hopefully you'll choose to return to enjoy it sometime in the future Thanks again for the review

We booked a black November deal and stayed in January! Overnight stay, spa access, dinner and breakfast.
On arrival we headed to the spa, this was nice, a really strange set up as its in a old church. The sauna and steam room are both extremely tiny and not big enough for the amount of people in there. It could also do with some ventilation in there as there is some black mould on the ceiling!
Our room was one of the newly renovated rooms and also it seemed nice to look at first, all wasn't what it seemed. The bathroom fan was so loud and wouldn't go off and the shower flooded the bathroom as it didn't drain properly. The mattress was far too soft and some of the finishing edges were a bit scruffy.
Dinner was nice, however the service was terrible. My husband had finished his starter and I had to ask for mine to come. They had forgotten about it. We heard other people complaining in the dining room as well.
The bar was extremely overpriced, 1 pint of beer and 1 bottled beer. £14.10.
Breakfast was nice. But no black pudding!
All in all it was OK for what we paid. I won't be rushing back without another deal!

Spent a night here and couldn’t get out of the place quick enough. We had a package for a spa session, treatment, overnight stay, evening meal and breakfast. Cost was around £320.
We arrived for our spa session and to be fair that was ok. The spa is a little run down with bits not working such as one of the jacuzzi’s and the steam room. The staff at reception seemed more interested in socialising with each other rather than welcoming guests. We spent a few hours in the various pools and had our treatment.

Upon checking into our room we discovered the carpet was heavily stained, it was dusty, the headboard was hanging off the wall and there were various scuffs, marks and dubious stains throughout the bedroom and bathroom.

We went down to the restaurant at 7:30pm for our evening meal… around 1 hour after ordering and complaining to the waitress our food eventually arrived. It definitely wasn’t worth the wait. The food was lukewarm and tasted like it’d just been reheated. Our main course was followed by a cheeseboard, this I can’t really describe. The cheese literally tasted of nothing. There was a side of pickle which reminded me of mince pie filling. Awful.

In the morning we braved our breakfast as it was in with the price. I have to say I’ve stayed in hostels with better food. I’m not sure how simple breakfast items can be prepared so badly.

Anyway, never again. This place is to be avoided, maybe use the spa if you can get a decent deal but other than that it’s a waste of money.

Took my mum here for afternoon tea and we really enjoyed it. For the price I thought it was very good value including a nice glass of Prosecco, yummy scones and tasty cakes. The sandwich fillings were quite basic but other than that it was very good. We were happy to look at the lovely views by the window and relax. The only negative is that it would have been good to have been asked if we needed anything else or a top up of tea.

Thanks for visiting Ange and your comments are much appreciated. The view from the window of the Lakeside Restaurant is fabulous on a clear, sunny day, so glad that you both managed to enjoy it. Your comments regarding the top ups will be passed on to the team. You may also wish to visit for Sunday Lunch. Again, very popular - just £16 per person for 2 courses & half a bottle of wine. Hoepfully we'll see you again soon

The surroundings are beautiful and the restaurant clean and quiet.
Staff are polite and adhere to COVID restrictions.
Food is well presented and delicious, unfortunately the scones came with whipped cream not clotted.
The only problem was the tables were not cleared quickly, dirty cups and plates were left on the tables for at least 90 mins in some cases.

Late...around midnight. To be fair, though, we didn't hear it from our room. However, I wouldn't recommend staying here at all. The level of service is extremely poor and the rooms and interior are quite tired. The management simply respond to any constructive criticism with platitudes. Avoid a visit at all costs.
