      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Generation Kill plunges the viewer into war with a visceral force that's still somehow reined in by masterful storytelling and a strong command of period details.

Maureen Ryan Chicago Tribune Starts to seem like a long, surreal and sometimes heartbreaking road trip taken by a bunch of buddies who just happen to be armed to the teeth. May 24, 2018 Full Review Robert Bianco USA Today An honest, barely adorned, sometimes painfully vivid representation of life as we live it now. It's journalism converted to art, with both benefiting. May 24, 2018 Full Review Tom Shales Washington Post An often poignant, sometimes shattering and occasionally criminally funny account of men trapped on a battlefield of confusion, uncertainty and cross-purposes. May 24, 2018 Full Review Glenn Garvin Miami Herald A raucous, raunchy and utterly loving account of life at the bottom of the military food chain. May 29, 2018 Full Review Andre Dellamorte Collider You get to live with the men, and feel it, and then experience why the operation... will lead to where we are now. It's powerful stuff. Pierre L rather than playing the fool It is urgent that the generation that follows organizes itself to send to the dustbin of history what should be... Think about it Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/26/23 Full Review Christopher C Right up there with Band of Brothers, Peaky Blinders, and The Pacific. The best of the best. First watched this over 12 years ago when it was new, and it's still the greatest to this day. If you're - in Ray's words - a "liberal d*ck suck, you're probably going to be offended by the language used here. Don't fret. This is how we all talked a decade ago, especially amongst groups of men. This was of course, before the time of SJW's and whatnot. I rewatch this show every couple of months to remind myself of how cool television used to be. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/11/23 Full Review Ricardo R It's Band of Brothers during the 2003 Iraq invasion. Great writing and remarkable acting make this one a must watch TV show. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I keep seeing the word `Realistic` among other reviews, all I can say is that if this is a `Realistic` portrait of the American Marine Corp, then God help us all! I had to turn it off after about 6 episodes because I could no longer stand the obscenity of these disgusting human beings, in fact the actors who allowed themselves to act out scenes of masturbation, defecation, obscenity toward women and children, ought to be ashamed of themselves. There is one part of the script featuring a comment about Jennifer Lopez that is so disgusting that if I were her I would be consulting my lawyers! Before anyone considers me a prude, I like most HBO content, and have no problem with nudity or swearing in the right context. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Generation Kill is surprisingly light on actual action, but the sharp dialogue, interesting characters, and superb acting makes it supremely gripping from beginning to end. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Mieux que band of brothers. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
