Daniel Parke Custis (1757)

Daniel Parke Custis, a wealthy planter, poses in 1757 for the well-known portraitist John Wollaston. The artist also painted the other members of the Custis family: Custis's wife, Martha Dandridge Custis, and the Custis's two surviving children, John Parke (Jacky) and Martha Parke (Patsy) Custis. Daniel Parke Custis died later in 1757, probably from a throat infection. His widow married George Washington in 1759.
