Weight and Color Options for the Selkirk Vanguard S2 2.0 Pickleball Paddle
The Selkirk Vanguard S2 2.0 showed up in my mailbox last month and immediately found its way into my hand and onto the court. There’s a lot of hype about the Selkirk Vanguard Line, which in all my experience is really top-notch. For the S2 specifically, you’ve got two weight choices: midweight, tipping the scales between 7.8 and 8.3 ounces, or lightweight, for those of you who like to dart around with 7.4 to 7.9 ounces of quick-strike precision. This paddle’s got a broad wingspan too— 15.75 inches tall and 8 inches wide, with a grip that’s just right at 4.5 inches long and not too fat around with a 4.25-inch circumference.
The first thing you’ll notice while striking a ball is that sweet spot—size 10, my friends—think dinner plate compared to a teacup saucer. The playing surface? It’s about the biggest you’ll find, so you can kiss those ‘oops’ moments goodbye. The handle? It’s got a relatively short measure there, for the control freaks in us who need that tight grip on the game. Plus, with the EdgeSentry guard, you’re getting a paddle that’s lean, mean, and not gonna quit on you when the going gets tough.
I really like Selkirk’s Quantum-CarbonFiber tech. It’s designed to add to the sweet spot that goes on for days and a feel that’s slicker than Teflon. Its core is X5 Honeycomb Poly – it’s like having a secret weapon that eats up vibration and spits the ball out with a soft controlled touch. And the grip’s the VANGUARD Geo Grip. It kept my hand happy while in marathon sessions on both cold and hot days.
While it doesn’t impact your performance directly, I like the color options. I found it hard not to feel a little cool in stealth mode with the black, or light it up with some eye-popping neon. There’s a flavor for everyone.
With its ample control, the Selkirk Vanguard S2 2.0 is my new court-crushing partner for doubles matches. You may want to compare to the Selkirk Amped line before pulling out your credit card, but for me, the S2 won the day.

I believe the right grip can make all the difference when seeking control—enter the Selkirk Vanguard S2 2.0 with a grip that feels like it was made just for you. With a grip circumference sitting cozy at 4.25 inches and a length of 4.5 inches, this paddle is a dream for players craving that perfect meld of comfort and control. No more slippage, no more blisters—just a pure, comfy grip that feels like an extension of your own hand. And the handle? Not too long, not too short, it’s the Goldilocks of pickleball paddle handles. Medium in length, it gives you the leverage you need for those power plays, without sacrificing any sweet, sweet control when you’re finessing those dinks. Whether your hands are big or small, or you play with finesse or power, the Vanguard S2 2.0’s grip is ready to be the silent hero of your game. Take a look at Selkirk’s website for more information on that.

How Selkirk Vanguard S2 Paddle Performed on The Court
I shared the paddle with some of the other Pickleballologists. Please take a look at my impression compared to theirs below. As you can see, we rate it pretty consistently across the board in favor of control.
Spin
Spin for the win with the Selkirk Vanguard S2 2.0. The Quantum-CarbonFiber face put the ball on a string and danced it exactly where I wanted it to go. The texture grabs the ball like a wall-walking gecko’s foot and adds a twist that’ll have your opponents’ heads spinning as much as your shots. Pair that with the X5 Honeycomb Thick Poly Core; you’ve got a recipe for controlled, spin-heavy plays. Slicing, hooking, and chopping, the Vanguard S2 2.0 has the grip to rip it right and keep that ball turning on command. See our post on spin for a deeper background on the subject.

Serves
Step up to the baseline with the Selkirk Vanguard S2 2.0 and confidently serve. This paddle is a serving laser beam, giving you the mass and balance to start every point with an edge. With the choice between a slightly heavier midweight and a swift, lighter model, you can dial in the perfect level of drive and control for your serve. The ample sweet spot ensures your serves are powerful and consistently accurate (I can’t emphasize that enough about this paddle). I reduced faults and increased pressure on my opponent. The Quantum-CarbonFiber face provides the additional benefit of a textured surface, so when you want to slice your serve or add a bit deceptive spin, you’ve got technology on your side.
I was able to really drop some serves in difficult to return spots with the S2 – beyond what is normal.

Dinks
The Selkirk Vanguard S2 2.0 turns the soft game into an art form. With its ultra-responsive Quantum-CarbonFiber face, this paddle gives you a tactile feel about precision. The X5 Honeycomb Thick Poly Core is my secret weapon, absorbs the shock and gives me the finesse I need for the soft, kitchen-sink warfare. The sweet spot is so big, generous, forgiving, and ready to turn those soft hands into points. Downright diabolical dinking.
Drives
There’s a trade-off between control and power and this paddle favors the former. The heavier version will help with driving, but make no mistake, accuracy is what it was built for. The Vanguard S2 2.0 is precision-engineered to unleash groundstrokes with a blend of speed, stability, and soul-shaking accuracy. If you bring plenty of power to the game already, this will help you land those close shots in bounds.
