This is a long review, but there's so much to share with having a 5-night experience and having also stayed a night at a neighboring resort for comparison.
Nosara Hotel is still a bit of a secret paradise – dormant for 20 years and only just recently restored and renovated last summer. I can't urge travelers enough to skip the typical surrounding resorts and book your stay here if you want a truly authentic and convenient experience. Nosara Beach Hotel felt like it was very much an integrated part of the surrounding location.
For starters, the convenience of the hotel's location and nearby access alone is worth booking. Unlike other surrounding resorts, once you arrive at Nosara Beach Hotel after driving the long unpaved road to get there, you can access all the surrounding accommodations on foot. You're good to simply leave your car parked at the hotel for the rest of your stay. You can literally access both beaches from your room via the marked path to both Playa Palada and Playa Guiones. Walk right up to the only two beach-front restaurants in the town of Nosara (Bar Olga and La Luna) either from the beach or the road you came in on. Other eating options are also a short stroll away (Seekret Spot for gelato, Il Pizzeria for thin crust pizza, and more!).
As for the service, the staff is very kind, generous, and super friendly, so don't fret if you're not a Spanish speaker. Breakfast menu is free for guests with several options – I tried a different dish each morning and I recommend asking for a glass of pineapple juice (freshly juiced!). Their dining menu was outstanding and their drinks were beautifully crafted and tasty. Every single thing I ate was made fresh and tasted delicious. Remember that Tica service is a bit slower than what you might expect from American or other Western dining, but you have a completely open 360-view of the surrounding tropical scenery. So sit back, enjoy them, and tap into this more relaxed pace all the locals share, but know that you can ask the staff anything at any time and they're prompt to assess.
The rooms and grounds are a dreamy paradise too. Everything was so clean, simple, and had so much character that you often see surrounding resorts try to forge and overcharge to create a similar ambiance. Nosara Hotel is the real deal. Housekeeping was accommodating with fresh towels and daily room cleaning. There was tea, fresh ground coffee, and a french press to enjoy. Rooms included full bottles of shampoo, conditioner, soap, and lotion. The pool area was sparkling clean every day with towels provided that you could also take with you to the beach. And I can't emphasize enough how clean every square inch of the hotel was and guests have pretty much full access to the entire property. From the original red clay-colored tiles in the main lobby to the vintage wooden furnishings and white linens in every room to the beautifully landscaped and maintained grassy courtyards and grounds, Nosara Beach Hotel is clearly the perfect choice for any travelers trying to avoid feeling like a tourist in a tropical beach resort and want the most authentic Tica paradise experience.
This place is incredibly special and the people that maintain it are the best of the best. I'm forever going to recommend Nosara Beach Hotel to anyone planning a visit and can't wait to return in the future!
