I first heard of Eric Von Schmidt via Bob Dylan’s “Baby Let Me Follow You Down” which begins with the intro:

I first heard this from Ric von Schmidt. He lives in Cambridge / Ric is a blues guitarplayer. I met him one day on / The green pastures of the Harvard University

As someone (at the time) thinking of heading to Boston for college (BU not Harvard) I always remembered the line.

That song isn’t on this LP, which was Von Schmidt’s second on Prestige, but “Joshua Gone Barbados” is – which may be his best well known composition. He’s joined by Geoff Muldaur and Mel Lyman but it’s a pretty simply recorded and produced folk record.
