The district administration of Uttar Pradesh's Amroha has decided to forward a proposal to the state government for the construction of a mini-stadium and to open a gymnasium in the ancestral village of India's ace fast-bowler Mohammed Shami.

The decision of the Amroha district administration came after Shami's stellar performance in the men's ODI World Cup 2023.

Speaking about it, District Magistrate of Amroha, Rajesh Tyagi (IAS), said, "We have been sending a proposal to construct a mini stadium in the village of Mohammed Shami. In that proposal, there will also be an open gymnasium. We have sufficient land there (in the village of Shami).

He further said, "The (Uttar Pradesh) government passed instructions to construct 20 stadiums across the state and district Amroha's stadium was also selected for it."

On Friday, a team headed by DM Tyagi also visited the village of Shami to identify a suitable piece of land for the construction of the mini-stadium and the gymnasium.

Notably, Mohammed Shami belongs to the Sahaspur Alinagar village, which is located in the Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh.

SHAMI'S ACE PERFORMANCE IN WORLD CUP

India pacer Mohammed Shami has spearheaded the Indian bowling attack in the ongoing cricket World Cup and has picked up 23 wickets from just six matches in the tournament.

He is also the leading wicket-taker at the moment.

Surprisingly, the India pacer was not in the preferred playing XI of the Indian side in the run-up to the World Cup 2023 as India opted for the combination of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and two fast bowling all-rounders in Hardik Pandya and Shardul Thakur.

However, he joined the team after Hardik Pandya was declared unfit due to an injury.
