In ancient times, the gods of Asgard fought and won a war against an evil race known as the Dark Elves. The survivors were neutralized, and their ultimate weapon -- the Aether -- was buried in a secret location. Hundreds of years later, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) finds the Aether and becomes its host, forcing Thor (Chris Hemsworth) to bring her to Asgard before Dark Elf Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) captures her and uses the weapon to destroy the Nine Realms -- including Earth.

The biggest filler in the MCU. This movie has the least interesting story in marvel history, and a very forgettable last act. The only saving grace is the interactions between Thor and Loki.

Truly the weakest link of the early MCU lineup. Malekith does prove himself as a threat whenever they break down the walls of Asgard but a character who is evil because he just wants power to conquer the world and its realms is boring and Malekith is portrayed that way as well, boring and nothing really to do. None of the down moments lead to much payoff. This movie feels like just there to introduce the Aether and that is about it and that is now in the Collector's possession. Still good but slow and character moments are boring in this one.
