Our Story
Just 80 miles west of Portland, Haystack Rock on Oregon’s wild North Coast has stood as a beacon for generations. Before Highway 26 connected Portland to the Oregon Coast, intrepid travelers would journey seven hours to reach Cannon Beach – a trip that included the infamous Ecola Toll Road and its 111 hair-pin curves (don’t miss the archival photographs at the Cannon Beach History Center). Nestled between the ocean and the Coastal Mountain Range, Cannon Beach was magical, hard to reach, and a summer home to the many beach souls who sought relief from the noise of city life. Today, people come from all over the world to Cannon Beach and the Stephanie Inn for the very same reasons.
In the 1970’s, Cannon Beach hospitality family Jan and Steve Martin had long envisioned a beachfront Inn — a place both laid back and luxurious, where guests could escape, reflect in awe at the rolling sea and monolithic rock formations, focus on themselves and their loved ones, read, walk and wander. They liked to call it the “ultimate beach house.” Named after their daughter, Stephanie, Jan and Steve opened the Stephanie Inn in 1993.

Ryan and Stephanie Snyder believe the well-being of their family, staff members, guests and the North Coast community are inextricably linked. The Snyders hospitality company, Martin North, and its passionate team members donate time and resources to support such Pacific Northwest organizations as the North Coast Land Conservancy, Haystack Rock Awareness Program, Make a Wish Oregon, Cannon Beach History Center & Museum, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Providence Hospital’s Festival of Trees, Food 4 Kids Seaside, Pacific Ridge Elementary PTO, Seaside High School Booster Club and Dress for Success Oregon. Longtime advocates for the arts, the Snyders recently commissioned 19 original artworks by 15 North Coast artists to be housed at the Stephanie Inn. See the Art of the Stephanie here.
