Ballina High School prides itself on powerful learning through quality teaching in a caring environment. Ballina High School is a comprehensive school catering for the diverse needs of students. Our inclusivity is demonstrated by our strong academic programs, significant Aboriginal population and substantial special education and learning support programs. Senior students choose an academic pathway, a VET-Trade School pathway, a Life Skills pathway, or a combination of these. The school's broad curriculum includes subjects in the humanities, arts, sciences and mathematics, social sciences, languages, technology and vocational education. Innovative programs include catering for gifted and talented students, learning skills, Aeronautics and Marine Studies. Our holistic philosophy is concerned with the academic, social, physical, emotional and cultural growth of each student. The school has a strong welfare focus, fosters student leadership, encourages sound values and offers extensive extra-curricular activities including: sporting opportunities, community involvement such as volunteering, driver education, radio and video production, band, choir and an exchange program with a Japanese school. Four of our most vital resources are: our experienced and dedicated staff, our attractive physical environment, our strong links with the wider community and our expanding use of technology in teaching and learning.

The new Ballina Coast High School is now finished and operational to meet the needs of the student community. The benefits The latest technology. Innovative classroom design. 63 new flexible learning spaces. Six outdoor learning spaces. Ballina Coast High School will accommodate year 7-12 students from Ballina High School and Southern Cross School.

Maintenance

To ensure the safety, reliability and longevity of our schools, every school across NSW receives maintenance. The Department undertakes preventative and routine maintenance every year, and repairs as needed. The Department also reviews the planned maintenance program for each school every year and reviews those items that are predicted to require work to help prolong the life of the school buildings and facilities.

Demountables

Demountables have been part of the NSW education system for many decades and will continue to be used across the state. Demountable classrooms are modern, air-conditioned rooms that provide students and teaching staff with excellent quality facilities. The learning spaces have the same range of technology that is available in permanent spaces. We review school accommodation needs each year, looking at changing enrolment patterns and other factors to prepare for the upcoming school year. This helps to identify schools that need new demountables and schools where they can removed. Most demountable movement takes place between October and February and we report our annual demountable statistics each April. Additional demountable installations can occur outside this window to support capital works and maintenance projects in schools or emergency responses to natural disasters.
