When HBO did a run of kid's shows.
HBO had quite a few shows targeting a black audience, including Def Comedy Jam and Cosmic Slop (which was like a racially-focused version of The Twilight Zone).
The 90s was a weird time. You have all that talent and they are like "Let's lead with Whoopi"
She was big back then
EGOT
That’s a daytime Emmy
Still counts! Girls gotta eat
She'd done a number of movies, starting with The Color Purple, won an Oscar for Ghost, helped lead the Comic Relief specials with Robin Williams and Billy Crystal. Yes, she hosts The View now, but "strike while the iron is hot" is a phrase for a reason.
Bro Whoopi is fucking nuts, but she’s also legit talented. She’s a great actress, Don’t forget that.
Have to admit that she wouldn't be top billed on that list now though. But it's also funny to see Chris Rock and Will Smith right next to each other too lol.
Most people liked her well enough before The View if I’m remembering right.
The Michael Vick thing was a big turning point, iirc. She defended him by insulting African American culture quite badly.
I vaguely remember that now. I forget she defended him. Just went and googled what she said.
"He's from the South, from the Deep South ... This is part of his cultural upbringing”
As a black person raised in the deep southern US I absolutely cannot relate in any way to that shit she said. Thanks for the reminder.
What? Whoopi was a huuuge star then
Never forgot about this one.
The music from this show was amazing! I'm going to have to rewatch it now, because I can only remember a few songs.

ORIGINAL JOKE: If an EVIL CONSERVATIVE 😈saw this show, he would probably call it WOKE! Upvotes please!
An example of political correctness that conservatives didn't get up in arms about, I think.
Hey! You can’t make that joke! I already made it a few seconds ago!
Someone down at the bottom is trying to start something. Mind you this line up is not the whole show. There's Spanish, Asian, and even native American interpretations of fairy tales. Also one with music by Loretta Lynn. Best to leave them down there.
Oh shit, I loved this show as a kid. The race of the characters never really even came to mind.
Looking at that voice cast..
God damn, that's a lot of talent in one show. HBO can get the names.
This and Crashbox were my jam
Will Smith? Samuel L.Jackson? Denzel Washington? Even Chris Rock!?
This seems racist to me.
Ironically it seems to be aiming for the diversity market. Mostly African and Chinese.
Let a bunch of white people do one with all African folk tales.
How so?
If this was reversed and it was only whites with a bunch of African fairy tales then I think it would be obvious.
Most kids cartoons up until the 90s had mostly or exclusively white characters. This show has a diverse cast and suddenly it’s racist? Nah dude. Black kids deserve to see people that look like them depicted on screen the way white kids always have.
It doesn't look diverse to me.
