Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

- keith_hawesMuelheim an der Ruhr, Germany522 contributionsA great interactive museum, where you can track and follow the progress of people to the New world and beyond. It is well worth a visitWritten 21 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- WingWingOneLondon, UK872 contributionsShort visit, it will take you max 40 mins, but at a low price (4 euro)
Nevertheless impressive to be able to visit inside a real U boat.
Everything is narrow.Written 31 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. When you arrive you come to a large ticket counter in a large lobby/hall area. From here you can walk through to the cloakroom to place your belongings. This is free to use the cloakroom, just present the token when you return. Then you walk up the stairs in the enter of the lobby (toilets at the side) and then you see the building in two halves across several floors. This is how best to think of the experience.
The left centres all around the data and research that evidences global warming and its causes. This is quite data centred, but also has some interactives for the kids to learn from. This area of the experience is mostly all in German so I didn't take much from this, other than absorb some time.
The second half of the building is exploring different climates of selected countries. This actually starts at the top of the stairs behind the lobby. There is a member of staff there but its not easy to spot due to its concealed entrance. They stagnate visitors into this part of the building to help visitor flow (starts every 6 minutes). The premise is you are following the path of a German researcher has he travels the world, recording the climates encountered.
You then walk round huge rooms (one way), each centred around different countries on the journey. You start with Switzerland, before moving down into Sicily, Sahara desert, African countries, before visiting the German Antarctic research base, rainforests of Samoa, and finally coming up to Alaska. Each room is done up as a huge environmental dioramas, with temperatures and surround sound to match. For example, the Sahara desert is super hot and has really dry air, whilst the Antarctic section is basically a refrigerated freezer ice box. The fact each room is done up so well as a mock environment helps immerse the experience.
This section also has information provided in German AND English which is was much more beneficial to me. This is provided via information boards. The boards are not only about the climate, but also about the wildlife, people and cultures making it an interesting learning experience. It was quite enjoyable. There is also café and toilets half way round the experience if you want/need a break.
I would say though, this is a main attraction for learning when it comes to geography, and science so it is not much of a surprise that there were lots of kids there when I visited! That's the only downside really to the whole experience as it can be very busy, particularly at choke points round. Fortunately you can use the accessibility trail to avoid certain parts if you wanted or for another path round - this is recommended for people with disabilities.
Its a good experience if you dont mind children. I wouldn't want it to be any more expensive though but its an ideal opportunity to see and do something a little different.Written 6 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The entrance is not connected to the hotel you have to go round the side. You then have to wait for the lift, which in Covid times, means the queue can stretch to the outside, as only two people (unless from same household) can use the lift at the same time. There are no alternative stairs. The lift journey is limited to the entry and exit floors , so fairly quick. Once you are up , there are markungs and a one-way system which are not difficult to follow. The view is fabulous., you see the Weser estuary spread out on one side, you finally understand how big the harbour is, and how water dominates the living /office spaces aound here. There are explainatory tables of landmarks. We were glad we took the time to get this view.Written 1 September 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Christian MElsfleth, Germany238 contributionsI don’t remember how many times we’ve been there.
The entrance fee is absolutely good.
The staff is super friendly and competent.
The cages, water etc. are clean.
The people at the restaurant and in the souvenir store need a little more love, but it’s acceptable.
But: right underneath a pole on the children’s playground, where children are climbing/gliding down, there are metal sticks that are holding a caution band.. if someone is accidentally falling from the pole onto the stick, they’re dead. The stick got super sharp edges.
That’s the only thing. And we’re going there again.Written 10 September 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. For the seafood lovers of the world, a visit to this unique place is a must!
While not only dealing with seafood from the North Sea, it is their specialty and many favourites can be found to be indulged in!
Their Herring selection, the smoked Eel, Grey Shrimps, and so on can be found in a myriad of variations! A connoisseurs dream of!
Fiedlers Fischmarkt is a shining example that Germany is not just about, meat, sausages & bread! Established anno 1906, it’s been a favourite for the northerners since!
Of course I needed to pick up some eel & schillerlocken, (unfortunately travel restricted what I could take along) end I had a totally yummy dinner!
Of course taking a walk around the area was also delightful and walking hy the very famous “Schulschiff Deutschland” was essential!
Enjoy this little pictorial of white cold & wet, still a great day!

However the layout and descriptions were such that I hardly referred to the book as I moved though nearly 1000 years of history of the area. The working cinema with choice of 4 videos was great but best for me were the layout loft from the shipyard where it showed how they took the ship plans and converted them to full size drawings to then cut ribs etc. just fascinating. Really well worth a visit. I spent 2 hours there and found it really interesting. - Sarah HWarrington, UK165 contributionsGreat place to visit. Centre piece is the 16 century sailing ship found locally in the mud.
Plenty of information around the outside and multiple levels to view the ship.
All accessible by stairs or a lift.

You will find all facilities in original and good conditions. It's very interesting to see under which conditions fish was caught 30 years ago.Written 24 September 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
