Karen Anderson Obituary

Karen (Jepson) Anderson, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and artist, completed her journey with cancer on October 21, 2023, at home. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Karen resided in Haddonfield, NJ, and Meriden, CT before settling in East Hampton, CT in 1976. After earning a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from the University of Hartford, Karen became a project cost estimator for the real estate construction firm Carabetta Companies. She then joined the law firm of Dzialo, Pickett and Allen in Middletown, CT as the firm's first real estate paralegal. In 1993, she received a Master's Degree in early childhood development from Central Connecticut State University and formed a private pre-school, My School, Inc, where she was the head teacher for many years. Her over-arching philosophy was that education should be child centered. Always gifted with a sense of palatial design, shape, color and drawing skill, she began a lifelong love of plein-air and studio oil painting with the East Hampton Art Association and the Madison Art Society. She greatly enjoyed a group painting trip to Tuscany, Italy where she painted in the rustic countryside and enjoyed staying in a Roman fort that was converted to a guest house by a patron of the arts. Many of her paintings that she chose not to sell now hang proudly in the homes of her family and friends. For her entire life, Karen enjoyed summers on Leete's Island in Guilford, CT. First in the family cottage of her youth, and later with her own family in the cottage next door. Karen considered Leete's Island her hometown because no matter where her winter homes were, she would always be able to spend summers on the Island and visit with family and life-long friends. She cherished the summers spent there and was very happy when her own children and their families came to love the Island as well. She was truly a 'Life-long Lover of Leete's Island".

Karen was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Louise (Lutton) Jepson.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ray, sons Sean (Amy), Michael (Janice) and Jason (Carrie), grandchildren Jack, Ivy, Ben, and Elliot; her brother, John Jepson and niece Jean and nephews Jonathan and Joshua; sister and brother-in-law Diane and Tony Petras; niece Stephany Gorman Dorsey and her son Alex; and cousins Jan Bauer, David Jepson (Sharon) and Richard Jepson, Russell Naylor and Wesley Naylor.

Special thanks to those who provided loving care to Karen: her entire family, especially daughter-in-law Carrie, RN, Chris Yi, Hannah, Jan and Laverne of Middlesex Health Hospice and Palliative Care, and oncologist Dr. Robert Levy.
