I moved here in the middle of my sophomore year but only actually started attending during the star of my junior year. My sister used to attend this school back in 2010-2015, since her time as a student it has changed drastically. It's completely different from the myriad of schools I've attended with each move I've made, what I noticed when I first started attending was the diversity and uniqueness of the students and staff. It was completely different than the white christian environments I was previously exposed to, I got to see life from multiple racial and economic perspectives. What I really found shocking though was the fact there's another campus that offers a shocking two pages worth of electives separate from Milwaukie! I got opportunities to take classes I haven't seen anywhere else.
I have had a lot of troubles being here, the curriculum can be difficult and the staff aren't all friendly. There have been a few teachers and faculty who I am very grateful for as they are kind and very helpful. Overall the academics aren't super hands on a side from science classes or art classes. They partner with Sabin technical career trade school which is amazing. Sabin/Schellenburg are absolutely amazing and open up all kinds of oppurtunities. My experience with other students has not been great. there is little community or respect. a lot of fighting and bullying. overall not a comfortable place to be.
The main issue is the students. Many do not put in much effort, skip many classes, get into fights, and vape in the bathrooms. At least one if not twoce a month the fire alarm gets set off because someone was vaping in the bathroom.
