Public Records

The Monmouth County Clerk has been responsible for maintaining a record of real property ownership and transfers in Monmouth County since 1675. The Monmouth County Clerk’s Office stands ready to assist with recordation of real property ownership and transfer, and in retrieval of information from such recorded documents, in accordance with New Jersey law. With our new state-of-the-art computer system, all recorded information is available immediately, with the image available within 24-36 hours.

Our Record Room at the Office of the County Clerk, Market Yard, 33 Mechanic Street, Freehold, NJ 07728 is open to the public, with some restrictions pursuant to the passage of Daniel’s Law. Office hours for inspection are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, except for legal holidays. Appointments are required.

If requesting to perform a search on a property or for inquiries regarding genealogy, state permits, or easements, please email veronica.dwyer@co.monmouth.nj.us or call 732-431-7324 ext. 7313 to schedule an appointment.

The recording office is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Appointments are not required.

 

On-Line Document Search

All documents recorded from October 1996 forward may be viewed and printed from our online Open Public Record Search System (OPRS) by clicking here. In addition, deeds recorded from January 1, 1976, through present can be viewed and printed. Click here for document copy instructions when using our Record Search System. Downloaded documents will have a watermark but are sufficient to prove ownership.

Note: The OPRS site is not to be used, nor is it intended to be used, as a title searching tool.

Obtaining Copies Of Documents

You may make reduced copies of recorded documents on the coin operated photocopy machines located in the Office of the Monmouth County Clerk, 33 Mechanic Street, Freehold, NJ 07728.   Please call 732-431-7324 x7312 to request an appointment.  The fee is $0.05 per page.

If requesting the Office of the Monmouth County Clerk process a document copy request, please fill out the Copy Order Form by clicking here, and email the completed form to veronica.dwyer@co.monmouth.nj.us.  The form should include the name, address, tax map municipality, block and lot(s) of the property, instrument number or book and page, if known.

The fee is $2.00 per page.  The document may be returned via mail or customer pick up.  Please review form for complete instructions.

Obtaining Certified Copies Of Documents

If requesting the Office of the County Clerk process a certified copy request, please fill out the Copy Order Form by clicking here, and email the completed form to veronica.dwyer@co.monmouth.nj.us.  The form should include the name, address, tax map municipality, block and lot(s) of the property, instrument number or book and page, if known.

The fee is $10.00 for the certification and $1.50 per page of the document.  The document may be returned via mail or customer pick up.  Please review form for complete instructions.
