Not what I expected---better

Someone said if you're over 20 you won't like this.
I'm male and I'm now 49. I like this. A lot.
But then I also like Isis (not a female pop star) and Robyn and Foghat.
My collection is very far and wide a mix of genres.

Believe or Not I recently saw this artist mentioned on the Kids Post page in the Washington Post (in January I think).
So when I chanced upon her Parlaphone Video for "I'm Good, I'm Gone" on YouTube I thought to give it a try and I was very impressed.
I was not only impressed by her but by the assemblage of musicians for this very acoustic rendering of the track.
It was odd to say the least and not like a lot of vids with flash and sex.
That video led me to track down the album and any single and remix.
She is really fascinating.

I still find it odd that she was featured in the Kids Post section.
Why? She's not like Ms. Spears of 1999 or Ms. Cyrus of 2007.
Also, I don't think this artist was marketed to young teens here in the USA anyway as she is already over 20.

This is not for everyone but it's very interesting.

The first half of the album is good, and the second half is great--pointing toward the amazing artist that is emerging. During the first half, she seems to be following a model of wounded young woman singer whose soft blending of instruments usually follows suit, placing her sounds within dreampop and sadcore, but she begins to reveal herself on "The Trumpet in my Head" as someone with a real interest in reaching more deeply into herself as an actual artist. The next song, "Complaint Department," is unlike anything on the album but is the most direct bridge to the next album, _Wounded Rhymes_. The rest of the tracks continue to play with sound in ways that show a genius about to explode.

This is an unbelievably creative album. The vulnerable and sweet voice of Lykke Li is captivating. Her songs are quirky, yet enchanting. Each track feels fresh, not fitting into any particular formula or sound. Lykke sings from her heart, and the music is matched to her voice with great sensitivity. It is not something I expected to hear in this age of throw-away novelty music. Lykke Li is a sweet but wounded angel who opens her heart to the listener. In my mind this cd is a revolutionary discovery in a time when I thought such sincerity was impossible. The music is deceptively simple, and yet so deeply penetrating. It is a portrait of a complex and thoughtful artist.

I have to say this is one of my favorite albums purchased this last year. It is funky, fresh, and upbeat, while still being mellow at the same time. I love this album while, hanging out at home, driving, commuting. Although I reccommend this whole album if your a fan of lykke li, or similar artists, like Feist The Reminder , Miike Snow Miike Snow (Dig) , Jonsi Go . But definitely get "Little Bit" and "Everybody But Me" I think they are the best off this album!

Découverte récemment à travers le très connu "I follow rivers" (contenu dans son album suivant par rapport à celui-ci, avec apparemment 3 années d'écart), j'ai voulu commencer par revenir aux sources, à la lecture de différents commentaires qui faisaient l'éloge de ce premier album, qui semblait avoir la préférence de certains.

Il est vrai que c'est un album agréable. Une vraie identité, un caractère propre, une musique intéressante, originale, et une mélodie vocale qui sonne agréablement à l'oreille.
Toutefois, ma préférence va plutôt à l'album suivant, car je trouve la voix ici un rien immature ou parfois trop dans les aigus à mon goût (ce n'est pas une critique, mais plutôt lié, je pense, à l'âge de la chanteuse, qui devait être bien jeune ici, selon toute vraisemblance ; je ne suis pas allé vérifier en allant m'informer sur internet. Une volonté, aussi, certainement de recherche de pureté de la voix, comme dans l'avant-dernier titre, où la voix part nettement et intentionnellement dans les aigus, avec une certaine délicatesse, mais ce qui ne me plait pas, donnant trop un côté enfant).

Une musique qui invite à l'évasion, à la rêverie, à pénétrer dans un univers intimiste, voire galactique. La voix, posée, pleine d'authenticité, avec ce charmant accent anglais (même si c'est une chanteuse suédoise), accompagne de manière opportune la musique, offrant à l'ensemble des tonalités très plaisantes, propices à la détente et au bien-être, en faisant un bon album, de qualité.

A good album overall and since first hearing little bit, I've always had that track to hand on most of my devices, but I never got round to buying the album as a whole. Now I have it, I can't say every track is a winner, but I'd say most of the tracks flow with only 1 or 2 tracks that are kind of meh, but I think they'll grow on me tbh with more listening.

After listening to albums 2 and 3 which are amazing, I backtracked to Lykke's debut and it's more of a practice run for what came later. She sounds about 12 yrs old and the music though good is rather wishy washy with none of the powerful hooks that came later. Not bad by any means but perhaps one for completists only.

Angefangen hat alles so: Meine Freundin hat mir eine Remix Version von "Dance, Dance, Dance" und "Little Bit" gezeigt und ich war gleich "Feuer und Flamme".
Sofort habe ich mir diese CD gekauft und ... der CD-Player läuft heiß, sehr heiß.

Zuerst etwas zum Booklet:
- Layout voll nach meinem Geschmack - cooles Design und schöne blasse Farben
- alle Songtexte sind abgedruckt
- hochwertiges, dickes Papier

Nun noch mal Genaueres zu den einzelnen Tracks:
- 14 Lieder, gesungen von einer schönen Stimme, alle kann man grundsätzlich schön Durchhören
- besonders gut gelungen sind für mich diese Lieder: 1,2,4,6,7,10,12 (Die Hälfte sind also TOP-Lieder)

Ich sage: Absolute Kaufempfehlung!!!

Das ist das erste Album von Lykke Li. Die Musik ist gewöhnungsbedürftig, überzeugt letztendlich voll und ganz mit ihrem Beat und Gesang.

Einfach reinhören und genießen und mal nicht stereotypisch denken und hören - man muss schon experimentierfreudig sein.
