Micah Richards was born on 24 June 1988 in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Although he was born in Birmingham, he grew up in Chapeltown, Leeds.

Richards started his soccer career early, appearing for Leeds United and Oldham Athletic’s youth setup before moving to Manchester City at 14. It was at Manchester City where he made his senior debut in 2005.

Internationally, Richards managed to make 13 appearances for the England national team. 

After hanging up his boots in 2019, he transitioned into punditry. He appears on BBC Sports, Sky Sports, and at times on Match Of The Day.

He is also part of CBS Sports’ UEFA Champions League coverage alongside Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher, and Kate Abdo.

Does Micah Richards Have Children?

About children, Micah has a 7 year-old son. In a candid interview with The Guardian in 2022, the pundit revealed he is missing out on his son’s growth due to a busy work life.

“I love everything I’m doing. But my schedule is too hectic and I’ve got a son and I’m starting to miss key parts of his life. That’s the only thing I’m worried about. But football will always be my passion”, he stated. 

As per the information revealed so far, he only has one son, and he doesn’t have a daughter. 

In the same interview, an upbeat Richards talked about how people grew from doubters to believers in his punditry. 

“We all need time. I wouldn’t still be on Sky or the BBC if I wasn’t doing my job well. People now understand that but back then they couldn’t.”

“I just need time to grow. Jamie Carragher, Gary Neville, Jamie Redknapp, and Roy Keane have been doing it for 10 to 15 years.” 

Micah Richards Childhood Challenges

Although he has amassed huge fame and fortune, life wasn’t easy for Micah Richards in his formative years. 

In an interview with Sky Sports in 2021, he spoke of the challenges of his childhood, revealing he faced police discrimination and witnessed a hammer attack that left him scarred for more than a decade.

“He had dreadlocks and when he was on the sidelines when I was playing he would be racially abused,” he stated about his father getting abused.

“I’ve seen someone get beaten up with a hammer in front of me. It scarred me for 10 or 15 years after it happened, it was just always on my brain”, said the emotional Richards.

It is an excellent testament to his fortitude and mental strength that Micah overcame great obstacles in his childhood to become the inspirational personality he is today.
