The Order spoilers follow.

The Order season two picks up where the first chapter left off, with the Knights on a mission to take back their memories from the Order.

But it was going to be anything but simple with deadly magicians, cults and demons (oh my!) on hand to stop them.

Has the series' second chapter left the door open for more? Will the battle be won and done at the end of season two, or is there more to come from Jack, Alyssa and co?

Here's everything you need to know about The Order season three.

The Order season 3 release date: When will it air?

Season three of The Order's fate was left hanging in the air, but during a virtual Comic-Con@Home panel exec producer Chad Oakes said that they hope to find out about the show's future "in the next few weeks".

"The fan and the audience response has been incredible," he added. "We're really thankful to everybody out there for watching. The love comes through in all the blogs and the reviews and everything else. So we're cautiously optimistic, and we hope that we can have some good news soon."

Sadly, that good news didn't come, with the show's creator, executive producer and writer Dennis Heaton announcing on Twitter that the series wouldn't be returning for a third instalment, paying tribute to the people who contributed to the show.

"For two seasons I was honored to work with an incredible cast and crew on The Order for @netflix. It is one of the best experiences of my career. Unfortunately, we aren't returning, but I will always cherish the memories and the props I stole. Thank you all for watching," he wrote.

Heaton also gave some clues about what would have been in store if The Order had come back, revealing that Jack was going to raise Alyssa from the dead but that she "was going to come back wrong".

"Like, Pet Sematary wrong. Probably possessed by Zecchia. And a whole bunch of other corpses were coming back with her," he wrote.

Replying to a fan who asked whether Vera would have got her magical powers back, he wrote: "That was going to be a longer haul, but she'd get it back. And god help us all..."

He revealed to another fan that he wants to revisit the world of The Order, writing: "In the back of my mind I'm hoping for a ten-year reunion movie".

Actress Louriza Tronco, who played Gabrielle, tweeted: "I had an absolutely BLAST playing Gabrielle. Thank you to the cast, crew, creative/executive team... and most of all to the fans for a magical 2 seasons.

"Really wish we could have continued that magic, but I know everything happens for a reason and I will forever be bonded with #TheOrder family. At least I don't have to feel guilty about all of The Order mugs I took from the office anymore. Love you guys and thank you for being a part of the journey."

But there's still hope! Season one hit screens in early March 2019, with season two arriving on June 19, so it's still a relatively fresh property. The show's dedicated fanbase, and the showrunner's continuing enthusiasm to carry on may mean that it gets picked up by another network down the line – we'll keep you updated if anything like that happens, so do bookmark us for future news and scoops.

Obviously as a result of all this, we have no idea when it might return – something that's challenging with cancelled shows at the best of times, but especially given Everything That's Happening Right Now.

The Order season 3 cast: Who's in it?

Alyssa (Sarah Grey) had a rough old time of it in season two when she was mauled by Gabrielle in werewolf form aka Midnight. Her throat had been slashed and she was last seen being carried by Jack into the forest with the Vade Maecum, a magical tome.

In any other world, that would be the end of her, and creator Dennis Heaton did joke (via Syfy) that "people die when their throats get ripped out by werewolves".

But anything is possible in The Order, so we'd expect to see Alyssa again if the show is rescued.

But will she be her old self?

Then there's Jack Morton (Jake Manley), Vera Stone (Katharine Isabelle), Lilith Bathory (Devery Jacobs), Randall Carpio (Adam DiMarco), Nicole Birch (Anesha Bailey), Gabrielle Dupres (Louriza Tronco), Hamish Duke (Thomas Elms) and more.

Alpha, the sixth werewolf and leader of the Knights of Saint Christopher, has been mentioned, but we have yet to meet him. Will he finally appear in season three, along with a host of other new faces, should the show get picked up by another network?

We know The Order likes to throw in a couple of guest stars too, and during Comic-Con@Home Devery Jacobs revealed who she'd like to see on the show: "At one point, Randall ends up saying Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is rumoured to be in the Order, and I'm just like, 'AOC!' I'm down for that! I'm ready to see it.'"

Chad Oakes, who also produces Van Helsing, had another idea.

Looking into his webcam and addressing Cher (yes, Cher), he said: "Sorry it didn't work out on Van Helsing, but how about The Order?"

The Order season 3 plot: What will happen?

Some major threads were left hanging at the end of season two, the aforementioned Alyssa and her fate being the main one.

But there are a number of other big questions that will need answering in season three, whenever it happens.

Vera is currently powerless, for now at least.

Chatting to Three If By Space, Katharine Isabelle said: "Vera is probably going to have to rely on Hamish a lot going forward, and now that her magic is gone... the people around her will be vital to her survival.

"Vera is going to have to play a very smart game... Maybe she has to go on the run."

But Isabelle sounded confident that Vera will somehow find a way to regain her magical capabilities.

"No matter what Vera will stop at nothing to get her magic back. It is her life."

Then there's Gabrielle. If Alyssa is brought back from the brink (there's no doubt in our minds that she will be), we'd expect her to pay Gabrielle a little visit, and our money's on it being nothing less than savage.

The show certainly isn't afraid to give its female characters some seriously meaty storylines (no pun intended), but it doesn't stop there.

Chatting about the women in the show (via Syfy), Katharine Isabelle said: "Sometimes people stop at creating these Strong Female Characters, and they don't flesh them out fully and make them intriguing."

Chatting to Three If By Space about his hopes for his character in season three, Jake Manley said: "I know Jack's biggest focus will be doing whatever he can to bring Alyssa back. To do this I think he's going to need help from people he doesn't necessarily want to associate or work with.

"I also think if it's possible to bring Alyssa back there's going to be a huge cost to it. It will be very interesting to see what that cost brings about."

We delve into all that and more in our season two ending explained, and how it sets up the next chapter.

But one thing we can be confident of is that every character is of equal importance to showrunner Dennis Heaton.

"It's always important to me when we do a season of TV that every character gets their own journey and that nobody is simply there to be an extension for another character," he told TV Goodness.

He added: "There was the very specific desire with the season arc this year that we end in a place where all of our characters are forging new relationships, but [they] are coming at the expense of the old ones."

As for what the season three will hold: "I'd say we're going straight to Hell... I don't know if this is season 3 or even 4, but I think some kind of judgment day/day of reckoning will have to happen at some point."

The Order season 3 trailer: When can I watch it?

First up, we need that all-important renewal.

If it does get the go-ahead, expect a lot more of the same.
