Can't wait until they announce that the entire first round of the playoffs will be aired on Peacock.

No just the 4th quarter of every game

That’s all that you need to watch usually

when my local news does the sports segment, I'm amazed at how they can recap all the action of a MLB or NHL game in like 30 seconds.

u/Shadybrooks93 avatar

You can do a plot summary of a movie/tv show in 30-60 seconds too.

I got a deal on peacock for $1 a month and still cancelled it

u/sgt_science avatar

I have for the premier league and that’s basically it

More replies

First on peacock and then the rest onto NBC Sports. There’s games I can’t watch on Peacock because they’re on NBC Sports and I think I need to sign up for that too from what i understand

It’s just as bad up here in Canada. I have cable with the sports package. If I’m home I can watch whatever is airing but since Sportsnet doesn’t air all of the games I have to hope to catch an American stream. I signed up for Sportsnet plus so I can watch games online if need be but since I work in another province if I want to watch any games that aren’t nationally broadcast while away from home I have to shell out another $30/month for Sportsnet extra plus or some shit. If I could figure out how to pirate on an AppleTV I’d ditch the whole shebang and just go with that.

lol I read that as first round of layoffs, you know to pay for this deal

Steal it from ESPN instead lol

Their broadcast sucks

It’s so bad. It’s like they’re not even trying. Unfortunately, it sounds like that is already a done deal.

The ESPN half time show is basically like a minute in total of random talking heads with meaningless takes that exist just so people can't claim it was 15 straight minutes of ads. I don't think it's possible to put any less effort into it than ESPN.

u/radda avatar

They should literally rename it "The ESPN Halftime Ad Break Featuring 30 Seconds of SAS Being Weird"

Which makes NBC potentially stealing rights from TNT a downright travesty. The Inside the NBA TNT crew is one of the best things about any sport right now. Just a damn good crew that likes to have fun.

u/TheNumber42Rocks avatar

ESPN is still donning 720p too. The reason NBC is going after TNT’s rights is because TNT is cable only so they can’t cover the finals. ESPN puts games on ABC local stations but TNT doesn’t have a local station to put games on.

I will rarely watch a regular season game on ESPN but will seek it out on TNT.

Same. I'd literally rather watch The Pistons vs The Blazers on TNT over my own team on ESPN.

u/inittoloseitagain avatar

I have watched a Zionless regular season Pelicans game on TNT….

SAS is such a terrible analyst.

TNT broadcast > ESPN broadcast and it’s not even close

He’s not an Analyst imo. Hes a talking head/on air personality.

u/The_Notorious_Donut avatar

Any chance if TNT gets left in the mud ESPN might try to swipe Chuck, Shaq, and Ernie?

The mouse does not spend money on talent.

They just gave Jason Kelce the bag and gave McAfee an enormous deal. They would absolutely get the tnt guys. They went and got Aikman and Buck as their lead NFL guys. They don’t spend money on irrelevant talent like Maria Taylor anymore that doesn’t move the needle

Shaq is one of the most well known basketball players in the world. Absolutely they would go after Shaq.

u/The_Notorious_Donut avatar

The mouse literally spent hundred plus mil on McAfee

More replies

I watched this when it aired, and I still randomly get it stuck in my head at least once a month.

u/NYY15TM avatar

Fox uses it for college basketball

u/HowardBunnyColvin avatar

NBC should take it back!

u/Neptune28 avatar

Fox doesn't have exclusive rights

More replies

NBC used it for their Olympics basketball coverage.

u/jblanch3 avatar

TIL John Tesh wrote the NBA on NBC theme and even plays it at his shows.

More replies

ESPN already secured the A Package.

Amazon already secured a streaming package.

All it’s left is the B package between Turner and NBC.

Know Zaslav he probably will just say no and use the “savings” to pay down the “debt” for WBD.

ESPN gave up on sports to focus on sports betting. Pretty smart move TBH.

Sports Center with SVP is just about the only thing ESPN does well and it has been that way for a long time now.

u/The_Notorious_Donut avatar

Their NFL coverage is pretty good

u/HowardBunnyColvin avatar

Ehhhhh.

ESPN is infatuated with the NFL and NBA. It's all they talk about.

Other than Mina Kimes I can't think of anybody redeeming on that network

U wanna be miserable?  Let nbc have it.  NBC is the worst.  I stopped watching Olympics cuz of them

u/TyroneLeinster avatar

Sure but the NBA isn’t a bunch of simultaneous taped events on the other side of the planet whose importance they have to sell to the audience. The NBA is just the NBA. The coverage would be less like the Olympics and more like SNF, which is actually well done.

u/ender23 avatar

If I know NBC, you're getting big locked games on peacock so you sign up for streaming. Ugh...

u/TyroneLeinster avatar

True

Their Olympic coverage is garbage. I hate it.

Their NHL coverage made ESPN look good.

u/HowardBunnyColvin avatar

This is what I've been saying man. Everyone was so glad the NHL left NBC but ESPn has done a mediocre job with the NHL. That and putting all the games on ESPN+. I dont' know anyone who has ESPN+

The only bright spots on their coverage are Michael Wilbon and the most recent addition of Bob Myers.

u/DirtyDirkDk avatar

It’s so bad. I’m way less excited to watch if it’s an ESPN game. Their personalities are awful too. They need to get rid of all the “hot take” type people. All they do is spout out basic cliche’s and act as overly confident as possible. I don’t get why they wouldn’t try something fun how TNT does with Charles, Ernie, Kenny, and Shaq. All very likable personalities unlike SAS and Kendrick.

I was so excited that I wouldn’t have to hear Doris Burke anymore

Then I realized she’s not on Turner

TNT is the only good broadcast

u/HowardBunnyColvin avatar

Seriously. TNT is better than ESPN. ESPN just has yapping Stephen A blabbing all game. And everyone hates Perkins as an analyst.

ESPN broadcasts remind me of the local lower budget broadcasts. They need a total revamping and commitment to quality.

I feel like MNF is doing well. But that's probably because they just swiped Troy and Joe from Fox and SVP does well on pre and post.

Oh yea MNF has a way higher production value. They actually try, it took them years but I think they found the sweet spot. I feel like the NBA casts don’t have as much effort in the studio portions

This would absolutely SUCK.

At least with ESPN, you can watch the games through the app without paying extra.

With NBC, they’re probably going to put the stream on Peacock and make you pay to watch live sports. It’s what happened with the Premier League. Used to be able to watch all the games. Now you can only watch one or two and the rest are paywalled for the streaming service.

u/Aar0nSwanson avatar

NBC + TNT would be a dream matchup

u/JaunxPatrol avatar

Maybe I'm in the minority here but I like the ESPN in game presentation. They do a great job making it feel like a big event, I don't mind Doris and JJ is pretty good, and of course Breen is the Goat.

Of course, the halftime show is literally a non entity, while TNT's is obv amazing

What happens to Sir Charles, Kenny the Jet, Shaq and Ernie?

First and foremost, this needs to be answered.

I believe Tesh sold the rights to Fox back in 2018. I hope they all do the right thing and put it back on NBC.

It’s now the theme song of the Big East on Fox!

more reply More replies

NBC still used it for the most recent Summer Olympics, so I think they can still use it. I think Fox just paid to also be allowed to use it.

I hope people realize what a golden age we are in right now with the whole TNT crew, love the studio crew, listening to Reggie doing some great color commentary on the Nugs-Lakers game right now…

"I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them”

I agree with everything except the Reggie praise. He is insufferable and not as insightful as he thinks he is.

u/EmbraceComplexity avatar

Reggie is loudly wrong about rules consistently and it’s very annoying

What

more reply More replies

Reggie is so bad. And those guys know nothing about basketball.

"those guys" have won countless awards for being the best show in sports television for decades and have, what, 6 championship rings between them and a combined 50 years of NBA experience? Yeah, I'm sure they don't know anything about basketball. Not to mention Ernie Johnson, who is a national treasure. Those guys are the best and I'm not gonna let you pretend there's any sports show that's even close to as good as Inside the NBA lol.
