Max Weiss Baltimore Magazine Is this a film about grief masquerading as a horror film -- or vice versa? Rated: 3.5/4 Jul 26, 2016 Full Review Calvin Wilson St. Louis Post-Dispatch Psychological thrillers just don't get any better than this. Rated: 3.5/4 Apr 21, 2016 Full Review J. R. Jones Chicago Reader Beautifully paced, the movie traces a steady arc from amiability to apocalypse. Apr 21, 2016 Full Review Marya E. Gates Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) Kusama crafts a slow-burn chiller for the ages that also serves as a meditation on the various ways people try to come to live with grief. Feb 13, 2024 Full Review Josh Slater-Williams Vague Visages Thanks to the skilled hand of director Kusama, The Invitation is a deeply uncomfortable but also eerily funny skewering of the hostility that can lurk under the veil of hospitality. Michael K Took over an hour for the build-up, but there was a little bit of twist at the end. Watched 5/19/24. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/20/24 Full Review D S Decent slow burn budget horror flick filmed entirely inside of a house. It's predictable but when ish hits the fan at the end it really hits. Problem with these type of horror movies is that the ending is never satisfying because the plot is never complicated. Just like another horror movie The Menu, the ending is not satisfying. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/14/24 Full Review Adam B Wasn't a fan, but not a bad movie. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/06/24 Full Review Andrew K I'm a sucker for a locked room mystery/thriller and this one doesn't disappoint. Going in I could predict what was coming, but that didn't make it less enjoyable. Definitely worth a watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/19/24 Full Review Marlene A It's entertaining but predictable Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/24 Full Review D E This is worth a couple of watches. The first time through, there was so much mystery, it keeps your attention. The second time through, knowing what is going on - watching it all unfold helps it all come together. Good thriller.
