A dusty corner on the internet where you can chew the fat about Australia and Australians.
Need A Visa To Visit Australia?
Hello, I am a United States Citizen and I bought a ticket to visit Australia during August for a little over a week. I did research and saw that all visitors need a visa to enter Australia, I applied for one a month ago. I pay a $20 application fee and received a confirmation email but never heard back from them. I have reached out a few times and never get a response.
The sites where I got my information was: https://www.australia.com/en-us/facts-and-planning/visa-and-customs/australia-visa-and-entry-requirements-faqs.html
and I applied for the visa on: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-finder
Is this legit or was I scammed? And If I never hear back from anyone should I still get on that plane to Australia?
Sorry if this isn't allowed.

Sure get on the plane. You'll have a great view of our airport and immigration holding cells.
Visas globally are taking months to process due to backlog. Most people are waiting around 3 or more months
If it's anything like America, they won't let him check in without the visa approved
My son and his wife just visited from the US and it took 7 weeks. There is a huge backlog right now.
That is the correct website for home affairs. What type of visa did you apply for and did you check the expected wait time when you applied?
Tourist visa I believe, and it said 48 hours
Is there no link in confirmation email?
Sorry, it is an ETA visa and I applied for it on June 4. The confirmation email has no links or anything. It even says because this is an automated email, do not reply to it.
Is it a 600? There's a table on the home affairs website which shows that while some visas are processed in a day, others will take over a month. Do you have anything in your history that may cause problems with a visa?
Are you anywhere near an Australian embassy where you live?
ETAs have no approval time estimates available unfortunately. Just keep checking is all I can advise.
My friend traveled from the US back in March and applied for her ETA via the DFAT app (iPhone). It was $20 and she was approved instantly via email. We were advised to apply via the app since applying via the website was taking much longer even back then.
You can get an ETA which is similar to the USA Esta system. Basically an electronic visa. Get the ETA app from the play or iphone store.

Sorry, I actually did apply for an ETA visa. I even uploaded my passport and everything. The confirmation email just says it was received but has no links or anything. I’ve tried emailing them 2 times now and have gotten no response
Have you checked your spam and deleted items folder?
Where did you apply? Was it at the embassy? Through a travel agent? The official website? Some guy at the back of a walmart in a black van?
Oh man you are so funny
If this is a serious question you should consider employing a guardian to travel with you.
The world is a complicated place and you can get yourself in serious trouble if you are unable to cope with simple judgement calls without asking strangers for help. Not all are as kind as we are here.
I searched to confirm, and it was the first link BTW.

Maybe I’m just poor but the idea of buying international flights without ANY cursory research into visas and current traveller safety recommendations seems either mind bogglingly stupid or just flat out ignorant. Holy shit!
Applied for ETA via smartphone App...scanned passport and entire application process took about 15mins. Got ETA Visa confirmation within an hour. Have you checked on the app?
