The upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is all set to get underway from March 22. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had announced the schedule for the first two weeks of the IPL last month. Last year’s champions Chennai Super Kings, under the leadership of MS Dhoni, will start their title defence with a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 22.

As the IPL 2024 season is all set to start later this month, we take a look at the list of all champion teams.

Rajasthan Royals (2008)

Rajasthan Royals, led by Shane Warne, had emerged victorious in the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008. Playing against Chennai Super Kings in the summit clash, Warne’s men had won the contest by three wickets to lift the trophy.

Deccan Chargers (2009)

Deccan Chargers were the champions of IPL 2009 edition. Led by Aussie great Adam Gilchrist, the Chargers got the better of Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2009 final by six runs to win the coveted title.

Chennai Super Kings (2010)

Chennai Super Kings won their maiden IPL trophy in 2010. The MS Dhoni-led side beat Mumbai Indians in the final back then by 22 runs to claim the title.

Chennai Super Kings (2011)

MS Dhoni’s men successfully defended their title having beaten Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final. Chennai Super Kings registered an emphatic 58-run victory in the final to win the IPL 2011 title.

Kolkata Knight Riders (2012)

Chennai Super Kings’ chances of winning three IPL titles on the trot were shattered by Kolkata Knight Riders. Led by Gautam Gambhir, the Knight Riders won their maiden IPL trophy in 2012 securing a five-wicket win against the Super Kings.

Mumbai Indians (2013)

Chennai Super Kings had to be content with the runners-up position once again in the very next season as they were defeated by Mumbai Indians in the final fixture. The Rohit Sharma-led side won their maiden title with a 23-run victory against the Super Kings.

Kolkata Knight Riders (2014)

Representing Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Wriddhiman Saha produced a phenomenal knock of unbeaten 115 in the IPL 2014 final. Saha’s genius, however, went in vain, as Kolkata Knight Riders scored the winning runs with three balls to spare.

Mumbai Indians (2015)

The IPL 2015 final witnessed another enticing rivalry between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings and Rohit Sharma had the last laugh once again. Defending a solid total of 202, Mumbai Indians scripted a resounding 41-run triumph.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (2016)

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s chances of winning their maiden IPL title suffered a massive blow in the final contest in 2016. Despite Kohli’s brilliance, Bangalore conceded an eight-run defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2016 final.

Mumbai Indians (2017)

Mumbai Indians won their third IPL title in 2017 with a win against Rising Pune Supergiant by just one run in a thrilling final. Chasing a target of 130, the Steven Smith-led side fell short by just one run in the IPL 2017 final.

Chennai Super Kings (2018)

Australia all-rounder Shane Watson was in brilliant form in the IPL 2018 final to guide Chennai Super Kings to another silverware. Chasing a total of 179, Watson came up with a spectacular knock of unbeaten 117 to help his side emerge victorious.

Mumbai Indians (2019)

The IPL 2019 final will probably be considered as the most exciting summit clash in the history of the competition. Two fiercest rivals—Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings—were involved in that fixture and Rohit Sharma’s men ended up on the winning side back then. Defending a target of 150, they clinched a thrilling one-run victory.

Mumbai Indians (2020)

Mumbai Indians won their fifth IPL title next year. They claimed a five-wicket win over Delhi Capitals in the final to clinch the trophy in 2020.

Chennai Super Kings (2021)

Chennai Super Kings won their fourth IPL trophy with a win against Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs in the IPL 2021 final. Batting first, the Super Kings posted a solid total of 192. All-rounder Shardul Thakur picked up three wickets to earn an emphatic win for the MS Dhoni-led side.

Gujarat Titans (2022)

Making their debut appearance in 2022, Gujarat Titans produced a phenomenal performance. Led by Hardik Pandya, the Titans won the IPL 2022 title having defeated Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets in the final.

Chennai Super Kings (2023)

Gujarat Titans had a golden chance to retain the trophy last year but they were defeated by Chennai Super Kings by five wickets in the final match. Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja slammed a boundary on the final ball of the fixture to guide the Super Kings to a record-equaling fifth IPL trophy.
