We stayed at the Doubletree and decided to walk to Fogo de Chão for dinner. What a breathtaking walk! The architecture on this street was phenomenal. So much detail! Our favorite building was the Philadelphia Union League Building. The security guard there was so knowledgeable and it was real special for us to hear the history of that place. When the sun set the street reminded me of the Peter Pan movie, with the lit clock face. It was very special to see.

This is Philadelphia's prime shopping street. Full of boutiques and restaurants of all price ranges, Chestnut Street is a leafy row perfect for a weekend stroll. It is busy day and night and we always feel safe here.

The review says a 10-block closed off mall. No part of Chestnut Street was "closed" off. I asked the tourst office where the "closed off" mall was and they looked at me like I had two heads! You guys need to reviews your descriptions.

Chestnut Street in Philly is a cobblestoned historic street in the old city area of Philadelphia. It’s a fun area with hotels, bars and restaurants surrounding mahout points of interest.

Just came back from Philly with my "bucket list" a bit more full of experiences. Mixed feelings about not being there anymore. Chestnut Street .... is a pleasant & very safe street to walk up and down. Many restaurants, bars, stores, history & old places "written" on it's walls, doors, windows. Plenty of stores (chains, small independent or mom & pop retailers) where you could do window or $some real $hopping :). Retail is very alive on this street. A must to go in Philly. Explore, walk slow, keep your eys open for really good spots for great photo shooting too. Enjoy it.

Chestnut Street will get you from Independence Square down to the river. In between, there is plenty of history, very eclectic restaurants and clubs, as well as some nice hotels. We saw EVERYthing on this street! If we had done nothing else, it would have been worth it just for people watching. As it turned out, we were happy to be staying at a boutique hotel on Chestnut Street and felt it was the central place to be if you are in town to see the historical attractions. Although we could have parked a car at our hotel's parking lot (a block down), they actually advised us not to rent one as Philadelphia has a great public transit system. They were right, we didn't need a car. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend staying on this street or visiting the sites and attractions located on it as well. As far as handicap accessibility, the street itself is the pits unless you have something motorized (or good stroller wheels for babies). Most of the sidewalks are slate that is centuries old and uneven. Walking is fine. Anything with rollers is going to be tough. Once you get to the historic buildings though, they are prepared for you. One other tip: VERY hard to find parking here. Use a garage and just pay for it.

Most of the History of Philadelphia (and our country) is right there on Chestnut Street. Independence Hall, The Liberty Bell, Franklin's Court (where Ben Franklin lived, opened a print shop, and post office), Carpenders Hall (where reps from the colonys met). This street is were our country's first capital was, Where the Senate and Congress met, The Supreme Court..
This is probably the most historic street in America

It’s almost impossible to Philadelphia and not walk down Chestnut Street

there’s shopping in iconic buildings and it leads to most points but the reality is there are many people on the street looking to target visitors

there’s also a lot of trash in the street these days

proceed with caution and safety

very little police presence frankly thought the city could and should do a better job

We only walked down the street in the daytime I would definitely be careful
at night

Four Sisters Nail Salon at 2101 Chestnut St. It was more than 6 months since my last visit, but all the staff remembered me and made me welcome. Has a long overdue pedicure which was very relaxing, than a manicure to finish. The prices are very reasonable, so if you are ib the area and need a manicure or a pedicure, this is the place to visit!

Chestnut St and Walnut St in Center City are very much the happening part of Philly, though the greatness has also spread to South of Broad (midtown) now. Great food at all price points, fun bars and excellent shopping. Totally safe walking, even for single females.
