Purchase options and add-ons

After a heart and lung transplant operation, dancer Claire Sylvia discovered that new organs were not the only thing she inherited. Never having liked such foods as beer and chicken nuggets, she suddenly started craving them. After an extraordinary dream, she seeks out the family of her donor -- a teenaged boy who died in a motorcycle accident -- and learns that it is indeed possible for two souls to merge in one body.

"This is a story that must be told and heard...a fascinating example of how cellular memory can outlive physical death". -- Deepak Chopra, M.D.

I just finished reading "A Change of Heart" - Claire Sylvia & William Novak's original book. It's currently no longer in print, so I wound up ordering it from a used bookstore. It appears that the reprint is now available - with a slight title change (it now incl. "A Memoir").

At any rate, I found this book to be truely amazing! The basic premise is that Claire went through a heart & lung transplant, and afterward, she noticed some major changes in her personality (i.e. likes and dislikes) - was it due to the fact that she now had another person's heart and lungs within her? That is a question that you are left to answer for yourself.

I like the fact that this book explains what was occuring through Claire's point of view, and then goes on to discuss many other "experts" ideas as to why these things were happening. No one idea is pushed on the reader - the information is layed out for you to make your own decision.

I believe that this book is a "must read" for anyone who has gone through a transplant, knows someone who has, or is just plain interested in happenings that cannot currently be explained by western science. An open mind is a must!

P.S. This book also reminds us of just how important it is to check that little box on your license & become an organ donor. It may give someone the gift of life one day!

I heard an interview on the radio with the author and was interested in reading the book. The description stated that the book was used and in good condition, so I ordered it. This is the first time I have ordered a used book, but I am very happy with it. It took about 10 days to arrive, and cost me only $4. I can't really comment on the book itself as I have just started it, but the subject matter interests me greatly - Claire Sylvia was the first person in New England to have a heart/lungs transplant, and the book tells of the connection of the recipient to the donor & how she developed traits of her 18 year old donor. The interview was intriguing, and I sat in my car for 15 minutes after arriving home, so that I could hear the entire story, and I expect the book to be equally so.

I was glad to know more about what heart/organ transplant recipients experience. It does not surprise me that there is so much memory and personality in the heart as the bible speaks of it and I know it is from God. It is too bad medical science is not more open to what people are telling them of their experience. She wrote deeply of her experience and feelings and I appreciate that.

Helped me to understand what was happening to me after my heart transplant. What we are not told is that 10 to 20% of transplant recipients have changes that have not been taken seriously in the past by physicians. Read this book to gain understanding.

I was mesmerized by the writing of this book. It drew me in and I felt as if the author, Claire Sylvia, was speaking directly to me. I read it slowly to absorb the consequences of the operation. This lead me to Jody Piccolt's book, CHANGE OF HEART, which I had read before but wanted to read again, after feeling the effect of this one. My perspective on transplants has more "vision" now. I am still in favor of giving life when it can be done. Bless those who give. Bless those who get.

This was a fascinating book! I have heard about people taking on characteristics of having received an organ transplant but I had never actually read anybody's story. I found it interesting how the medical community had no interest in addressing the emotional impact and the changes that were happening through the transplants. That's too bad because it doesn't address the whole person.
I would recommend this book because it was truly fascinating.

This book was actually recommended at conference I attended by a guy that specializes in livestock nutrition. The concept that cells have memories and how that plays out in food choices is well illustrated by Sylvia's transplant experience. I found the entire book very informative. Definitely a must read for any one facing a transplant of any kind.

This crosses over from New Age beliefs to Christian. Interesting, but a lot of chapters were irrelevant. I was comparing our heart transplant experiences.

This book was an excellent read. It is very easy to read and very thought provoking. For those who have lost someone, i think this book could actually be comforting to them as it describes how life can live on even when we die. A note to all - death is the most natural part of life; it is something which we all share and should not be feared! Other books which can help to put the pieces of the puzzle together include THE BIOLOGY OF BELIEF by Dr Bruce Lipton, SPONTANEOUS EVOLUTION by Dr Bruce Lipton; HOW YOUR MIND CAN HEAL YOUR BODY by Dr David Hamilton; THE DIVINE MATRIX by Gregg Braden. I have read all of these books and highly recommend them. Peace to all!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and moving story of her life during a difficult period.

Oh my goodness, she had me in tears at one point. I have learned much, not only about heart transplants, but also the shock factor that often kicks in afterwards, as she wonders whether, with someone else's heart, she is in fact still herself? Very moving story, and highly recommended, especially if you know anyone (or you) are about to go through any kind of transplant.

Interesting account of a profound experience, but could have done without all the detail regarding her romantic relationships, which did not seem relevant.

Anyone who has questions about organ transplants should read this book. This is the story of Claire Sylvia, a woman who had one of the first heart and lung transplants. After receiving the heart and lungs of an 18 year old man who died in a motorcycle crash, she began noticing (as did others around her) that her preferences, likes, dislikes and desires had changed. She craved different foods, prefered different colours, often walked like a young man strutting, had a reduced interest in men and craved speed and adventure. She had a dream in which she met the young man and in fact "breathed" him into herself. This lead her to find his family and learn about him. This book is a biography about one woman's experience with organ transplants and reveals things that the medical community does not want to admit or discuss. It is a must read if you are thinking of donating your organs, if you are waiting for a donor or you just curious about life and death experiences.
