Up-and-coming youngster

After making his Bundesliga debut in front of over 81,000 fans, Dario Gebuhr helped Eintracht’s U21s secure the Hessenliga title before signing his first professional contract with the club.

Dario Gebuhr could hardly have wished for a bigger stage for his Bundesliga debut. On a Saturday night last April, under the lights in front of a capacity 81,365 crowd at Borussia Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park, the centre-back was handed his top-flight bow as a substitute for Eintracht veteran Makoto Hasebe. In a memorable year for the defender, Gebuhr went on to lift the Hessenliga title with the U21s a few weeks later before signing his first professional contract with the Eagles.

The 1.88m centre-back played a key role in the U21s’ LOTTO Hessenliga triumph and subsequent promotion to the Regionalliga Southwest, making 28 appearances for Kristjan Glibo’s team in 2022/23 – including five as captain. The 20-year-old Wiesbaden native chipped in with four assists and a goal.

Milestone under the Bundesliga lights

Gebuhr made huge strides last season, culminating in his debut in Germany’s top division last April. After 70 minutes of the Eagles’ Matchday 29 clash in Dortmund, he was given his first taste of Bundesliga action as a replacement for Hasebe, marking the latest milestone in his fledgling career.

“Dario is a good example that the door is open for young players at Eintracht Frankfurt,” said Timmo Hardung, Eintracht’s sporting director from 1 July.

The 20-year-old has made Frankfurt his second home. A robust defender who is strong in the tackle, he has been with the Eagles for six years now and was handed his first professional contract in May, signing a deal through to 2025 with an option of an extension.

UEFA Youth League experience

Gebuhr has made 17 outings each for the Eagles’ U17 and U19 Bundesliga sides. As well as appearing for the first team and Eintracht’s Hessenliga outfit last season, he also played seven games for the U19s in the UEFA Youth League – captaining the side on each occasion, no less.

“He’s a player who wants to keep improving, works hard on himself, has a good character and a professional attitude,” said Timmo Hardung, who will assume the role of Eintracht’s sporting director on 1 July. “Together we want to drive this development forward, responsibly and continuously.”
