57 Different Fashion Styles for 2024 (200+ pics for each Clothing Aesthetic)
This is the only list of fashion styles you’ll ever need - complete with 200+ reference photos for each aesthetic, accurate quiz to find your top style matches & free worksheet to help you finally pinpoint your gorgeous & unique style blend…
Trends and aesthetics come and go, but finally finding your signature fashion style blend will stand the test of time and help you create your own authentic personal look.
Identifying your personal style is the first and most important first step in creating an intentional wardrobe (capsule, uniform, minimalist, etc.) but it’s always been so vague & difficult to narrow down …until now:
THE PROBLEM: It can be tricky to hone in on just one personal clothing style because we’re not two dimensional beings that solely exist in a magazine - we have full, varied lives and our outfits need to be able to express our full range of personality.
THE SOLUTION: The trick is to use my formula to find your unique blend of styles - (read on to find out how)
You deserve to have a clear understanding of your core look - so here is the ultimate list of 57 different types of clothing aesthetics & fashion styles, to inspire you to find your own.
How to use this list of fashion styles to find your personal clothing look
STEP 1 - RECOMMENDED - To save time & narrow down this list based on your personal preferences, take this quiz first (if you’re not in a rush, you’re welcome to browse through the clothings styles below instead)
STEP 2 - Download your Style Formula worksheet, then scroll through the list and make a note of any fashion styles that your quiz results matched you with at 80%+ (unless they’re a ‘meh’ for you), or any that would like to research more.
STEP 3 - Read through the clothing style list below and update your worksheet as you go (each style has a dedicated Pinterest board with 150+ reference pics to help you decide)
STEP 4 - OPTIONAL -If you want to have some extra fun with it and see what the universe wants you to wear, try out this random aesthetic generator!
STEP 5 - Name your core personal style using the Find Your Style Formula…
Find your Personal Fashion Style Formula
As so few of us fit neatly into one specific fashion style, and as styles in fashion are so fluid and subjective, the goal is for you to pick 3 clothing aesthetic keywords and then combine them to create your ideal style blend.
Use my ‘FIND YOUR STYLE’ formula to identify your core personal style:
Fashion style 1 + Fashion style 2 + Fashion Style 3 = Your Personal Fashion Style Blend
What if I’m still struggling to identify my core personal style?
If you’re still struggling to identify your style after taking the quiz, completing your worksheet and reading this style list, no sweat, here are some ideas:
There are also 12 SAQs (should ask questions) at the end to help you delve deeper.
Getting feedback from people you can trust is a great idea if you’re feeling stuck.
I’ve created a dedicated Pinterest board for each style for you to do more a deep dive if needed.
Get inspired by other people’s style blend examples & look books
Type fashion style keyword combos (e.g. Edgy-Minimalist fashion, 70s-Ethereal-Edgy fashion, etc.) in to Google image search or Pinterest to see if you’re on to the right track

Take a step back and start from the very beginning - I offer the Happy Wardrobe Workbook for people who have no idea what their style is and want to be guided through that process. It’s a fun 4 week mindfulness exercise to identify your true, authentic style.

“Male” & “Female” Energy

I love this Wikihow for how to dress punk because it covers clothes and mindset, check out this quote:
Develop something to rebel against. Anything you hate in the world, rebel against it. This is way more important than the clothes. You can be a true original punk and not have all the cool clothes -- the clothes don't mean anything, just a way of identification. In fact, some punk lifers swear that fashion is just a distraction.

54) Street Clothing Style
Street style is a dynamic, fresh and ever-evolving phenomenon that is reflective of the diverse and eclectic tastes of people from all walks of life.
It draws inspiration from a wide array of sources, ranging from high-end fashion runways to hip-hop culture.
It’s also heavily influenced by the local environment, culture, and lifestyle of a particular city or neighborhood - so it’s as varied as streets are across the world
There are two common themes though - the confidence to push boundaries and try new things, and the swagger to make it WORK.
This aesthetic is more individual and fashion forward than “normal” current trends - it’s all about setting trends, not following them
Whether paired with high end fashion sneakers, a statement pair of heels, or edgy boots, street style makes heads turn and hearts skip a beat.
I especially love it when street style combines two unlikely elements to create an iconic look (…think Carrie Bradshaw pairing a giant tulle tutu with a crisp, white shirt, or Hailey turning us into Beliebers by rocking bike shorts with an oversized leather motorbike jacket)
It’s a more put together style so may require medium - high effort levels (those “effortlessly” cool looks often take a lot of effort)
Aka modern, cool, contemporary, trendy, urban, trendsetting, editorial

55) Toddler Clothing Style
AKA kidcore
Hear me out… my toddler has taught me so much about confidence and style. She has been picking her outfits and accessories since before she could talk, and will STRUT out of the house wearing some or all of the following:
Oversized hair bows
Statement sunglasses
Fun colours & clashing patterns
Flowery, polka dotted and/or frilly everything
Overalls, tulle skirts, rompers
Pockets (for special treasures)
Every outfit must be roly-poly ready
She reminded me to dress FOR ME, and to give zero Fs about dressing my age

56) Traditional Clothing Style
What traditional clothing means to you is completely based on your unique background and community

57) Vintage Clothing Style
Vintage is absolutely anything over 20 and under 100 years old - so vintage is your personal spin on any items from the early 1920s to the early 2000s
Vintage fashion is a perfect fit for those of us that love thrift shopping (here are my 51 thrift shopping secrets if that’s you)
Adding vintage to your style blend formula is also a great option if you love drawing inspiration from the past, but don’t want to limit yourself to just one decade.

SAQs
Here are some questions to ask yourself if you’re still struggling to pick the three fashion styles for your unique blend:
What do you like about your current wardrobe?
What do you wear to work, for hobbies, holidays, vacations, events, different seasons?
What’s your ideal style?
What’s your actual style?
Is there something in between the two?
How does getting ready / your wardrobe make you feel?
How do you want it to make you feel?
What types of clothes do you need? Exercise, work, formal, etc?
What do you feel cute in?
What do you feel comfortable in?
What do you buy and never end up wearing?

Style blend Formulas for Popular Trends
Combining three of the fashion styles creates your unique clothing style blend, but it also works the other way around too.
We can break down emerging trends into three styles that influence them, to help us better understand how to wear them.
Here are some examples of the style blend formulas that make up some of the most popular aesthetic trends nowadays:
Normcore Clothing Style
Girl Next Door + Casual + Comfy = NORMCORE
Normcore fashion aesthetic is a style that emphasizes simplicity, practicality, and blandness.
It is a style that celebrates reality and practicality - inspired by typical everyday outfits that people wear.
It focuses on comfortable, affordable, and functional pieces that anyone can wear, regardless of age, gender, or body type.
Normcore fashion involves a lot of solid colors, plain t-shirts, sneakers, and simple jeans.
It is a rejection of high fashion and seeks to blend in rather than standing out.
This trend has gained popularity in recent years, becoming a symbol of a generation that values comfort and practicality over extravagance and ostentation.
Gamer Girl Clothing Style
Feminine + Eclectic + Geek chic = GAMER GIRL
…Sometimes there’s also a touch of Racy thrown in there too
Gamer girl clothing aesthetic is characterized by its mix of cute, fun, and edgy elements, often featuring bright colors, kawaii patterns, and prints inspired by video games.
Shirts, dresses, and accessories bearing popular gaming franchises such as Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon are staples in this style.
Comfort is also a key element in gamer girl clothing aesthetic, with many outfits featuring leggings, shorts, oversized sweaters, and sneakers.
Overall, this aesthetic is a perfect representation of the playful, fun-loving, and creative spirit of the gaming community.
Quiet Luxury Clothing Style
Basic + Formal + Minimalist = QUIET LUXURY
Quiet luxury clothing aesthetic focuses on clean lines, high-quality fabrics, and simple design.
The goal is to create timeless, sophisticated pieces that can be worn over and over again without ever going out of style or losing their appeal.
Textures and details are subtle, yet thoughtfully considered. The result is a wardrobe that exudes a sense of understated luxury and effortless style.
Mermaidcore Clothing Style
Beach + Ethereal + Funky = MERMAIDCORE
Mermaidcore is a magical clothing style that is inspired by the whimsy and enchantment of mythical sea creatures like mermaids.
This fashion trend features flowing, iridescent fabrics, sea-inspired prints and patterns, and an abundance of shimmer and glitter (which give funky-festival vibes).
Garments and accessories often incorporate seashells, pearls, and other oceanic elements to create a dreamy and whimsical look.
Mermaidcore clothing style is all about fluidity, fantasy, and feminine energy.
My Personal Style Blend
How it started
This entire styling process has evolved from my bumbling attempts to pinpoint my style over the years.
I couldn’t work out how to dress in one fashion style without looking like a caricature, but whenever I tried to add in elements from other aesthetics it felt messy and “try hard”.
It finally occurred to me that I would never be able to carve out or refine a signature style if I had infinite options to choose from (…plus, my wardrobe and credit card bill were both bursting at the seems by this point)
I needed flexibility to express myself, but within the limits of just a few styles so that I could build out a more complete, cohesive & intentional wardrobe - a unique blend of 3 fashion styles.
I narrowed my style blend down to “Elegant - French - Minimalist”, but it never felt quite me and I struggled to come up with outfits and craft looks.
Trust me, you’ll know when you’ve got it right (check out the comments for cute proof of people having their “ah ha!” moment using this style formula) - so if you’re umming and ahhing, it probably needs a bit more tweaking - Go back to your Find Your Style formula worksheet to further explore some of the other clothing styles that you marked as LOVE & LIKE.
How it’s going
Everything finally clicked into place for me when I identified my authentic personal style keywords (not what I thought it should be):
Comfy - French - Toddler
I kept saying how jealous I was of my toddler’s wardrobe and that I wish I could have it in my size, and then I remembered that I can …so I did!
So now I get the chic, french colour and pattern inspo, paired with cozy and cute overalls, comfy, stretchy fabrics, fun frills and statement headbands.
