The Godfather owned and distributed by Paramount Pictures.
A composite of any number of professional crime families, The Godfather series is a cinematic classic. The films detail the life of Michael Corleone, an at-first reluctant mafioso who rises to power through a combination of ruthless decision-making, lax ethics, and familial sacrifice. The Godfather is based on a series of novels by Mario Puzo.
The Godfather trilogy now includes a recut of the third film, The Godfather Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone, which director Francis Ford Coppola believes to be more closely-aligned with his original vision. The end results for the overall story are the same, so you'll ultimately get the same experience watching either version, but how you get there varies.
Two video games arguably fit into the canonical storyline of The Godfather, namely The Godfather and The Godfather II. The events of the games follow lower-ranked members of the Corleone family in side stories that occasionally overlap with the first two movies. The games even bring back several of the actors from the movies to voice act their original roles. That said, some changes - particularly in The Godfather II - contradict the films, largely rendering the video games non-canonical.
