Be a part of history while staying on this waterfront property of the Ironmaster's Mansion. The two-story stone guesthouse, steps away from the mansion, was built in the early 1700's. The timeless character of the home, paired with the peaceful property creates an escape that feels like you've gone back in time, all while being only 20 minutes away from downtown Lancaster City.

This was home to the first treasurer of the US, General Edward Hand’s daughter, and President Buchanan’s fiance.

The space
Easily located off of a major routed road you will find a private stone drive with space for parking two vehicles.

A beautifully handcrafted wooden staircase will greet you directly at your parking. This will lead you up a steep bank of about 25 steps which a top sits the historic stone Ironmaster Mansion guest house that you will call home. The steps have two landings and are well lit in the evening. Please view exterior photos to assess your ability of the stairs, especially considering luggage.

Two outdoor lights will be on to welcome you if you’re arriving after dark. Please use caution on the brick pathway which can be slippery while raining and when wet.

A keypad is mounted on the door to unlock the smart lock for self check-in.

The house is newly updated with central heating and air conditioning.

On the first floor is the kitchen and living room with a small dining table. This is a drop leaf table that can extend to seat four. Extra chairs can be found in the kitchen closet.

Enjoy a smart TV and gas fireplace in the living room. The gas fireplace warms the home quickly and creates the coziest ambiance, but it is central heating that is the main heat source.

In the living room is a sofa that pulls out to a queen size mattress.

Find the best views of the Pequea Creek outside the first floor windows. The creek is located on the opposite side of the stone lane and can be admired from the large newly built deck. The deck has a table and chairs, and lounge chairs perfect for napping.

There is a very steep and narrow staircase from the kitchen that leads up to the second floor. If your luggage is large consider using the secondary stairs on the outside of the home, just past the front door.

On the second floor you will find a bathroom with shower only, and two bedrooms, both with queen size beds. Kindly do not access the unfinished attic.

We wish the property was more handicap accessible and friendlier to those who have difficulty with stairs. Please carefully assess your ability after reviewing photos of the exterior and interior steps.

Guest access
The historic Ironmaster’s Mansion is just several feet away from your home. The mansion is a private residence, please be mindful and respectful of the occupants.

When leaving the front door of the home please do not go left, past the guest house that you are staying in.

Enjoy exclusive use of the deck on the home. On the opposite side of the lane where you will have parked is a yard area directly beside the creek. This is private property of the estate for your use while you are a guest only.

The front and back yards, woods, outbuildings and paved driveway are not to be accessed by guests.

Other things to note
The home is perfectly located in an area that feels very remote and rural, while still being on a major road with quick and direct access to downtown Lancaster City.

It has been updated with all the luxurious amenities you want for a getaway while still maintaining its historic character.

Enjoy the central air and heat, a gas fireplace in the living room, rain shower head with handheld, WiFi, new deck, and more.

Wake up to birds chirping and the charming sounds of Amish horse and buggies passing by. Watch for deer and wildlife out the windows, and don’t forget to look up to appreciate the stars in the wide open sky without the interference of buildings or lights.

Be outside in the woods on nearby trails by day and at a fine dining restaurant in Lancaster City by night. It is a sweet balance that is unique to this area.

The history of this property is rich. The guest house is believed to be the clerks office of the ironworks that operated here in the 18th century under the ownership of Robert Coleman, Pennsylvania’s first millionaire. The first treasurer of the United States, along with General Edward Hand’s daughter, and President Buchanan’s fiance all lived at the mansion, among other Pennsylvanian elite.

It is hard to find a more unique getaway that can offer so much.
