Steven D. Greydanus Decent Films Cars is Pixar's most improbable success to date, a film that could easily have misfired, but somehow does not. Rated: B+ Oct 29, 2008 Full Review Christy Lemire Denver Rocky Mountain News Rips off Doc Hollywood, almost note for note. Rated: C+ Dec 14, 2006 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian Smooth, but bland and forgettable. Rated: 2/5 Jul 29, 2006 Full Review Cory Woodroof For the Win (USA Today) It’s a deceptively simple film that plays with more profundity as you get older and appreciate its themes more. Mar 1, 2024 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review This is a very good piece of animation, but given the source, it’s not unreasonable to expect better. Rated: 3/4 Mar 29, 2023 Full Review Mat Brunet AniMat's Review (YouTube) No pun intended, but Cars is a prominent example of a middle-of-the-road animated feature. Daniel Pimienta Watched it with friends who also grew up with Cars. Great time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/18/22 Full Review Aidan B Definitely one of the most enjoyable Pixar films put out, though also one of the most generic ones of its time, "Cars" is still an overall solid watch and yet another win for Pixar. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/25/24 Full Review Miro P "Cars" is a pretty average and boring sports movie. The movie's main character is Lighting McQueen who is portrayed by Owen Wilson. The entire section of the movie that was spent at Radiator Springs was pretty dragged out. Mater is just another attempt at being a goofy side character, and McQueen acts like an a- nnoying character throughout. The actual sports parts are the best scenes, and Chick Hicks serves a fine villain. The bonding between McQueen and Mater may not be the highlight of the film, but it does serve as an important plot point, with Lighting realizing that he shouldn't be so self- centered. A boring and pretty average film, with a few bright spots sprinkled in is something I wouldn't recommend myself. But if you are looking for a serviceable movie for your kids, I guess this could work. 2.5/5. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/25/24 Full Review Blu B While the animation is excellent and easily the best part you can defintely tell at times the screenplay was worked on by 6 people. Once he arrives in town it can feel like stuff just kind of happens and isn't really that tight of a story. But the voice acting and characters are excellent and very charming. McQueen can be a bit annoying and it's hard to like him (though I don't hate him) for most of the runtime but everyone else makes up for it. The music is really good but I do wish it was a bit more catchy and memorable on its own. It's also a bit predictable where its going to go and what the lessons learned are. However, it gets some good chuckles here and there and the comedy is defintely on the younger age side at times is still well done. It is paced well also. Anyone who is a fan of animated films, racing fans, any voice actors in this, or the work of Pixar will like this. Especially young kids will like this.
