Question about tuning on Sailing The Seas Of Cheese.......

On some of the songs on the album, it sounds like Les's tuning is sharp. Was this intentional or just how the bass was tuned at the time?

I seem to recall them saying in the book (over the electric grapevine) that they usually tune to each other so they might be slightly out sometimes. Which I thought was pretty cool and very Primus.

Yeah, I have a suspicion that Les sometimes tunes it a bit off on purpose.

That’s what Paul McCartney did too. He almost always tuned his bass slightly sharp to make it stand out more.

the production on seas of cheese (while an awesome fucking awesome) as always bugged me. whenever ler does a riff similar to les you can barely hear it, it’s so muted and low it gets distracting

Never noticed that. I do hate the production on that album though

Whats wrong with the production?

I think it sounds like shit compared to their other records. Sounds like herb is playing on a plastic table. Lers guitar sounds all muddy just never been a fan of the sound of that record

The 2013 remix is a lot cleaner than the original mix.

I prefer the warmer louder original mix though

I do agree with you overall it’s their worst sounding record production wise

I think the boys knew.. Pork Soda sounds amazing.
