Right in the heart of Queens is this amazing globe. It is a really nice place to visit and to take pictures. It is such a great reminder of the World Fair in the 1900s. It is also quite a serene place. However, there are some mosquito problems in the area. Overall, it's a nice landmark in Flushing Meadows.

I went with my friend during Thanksgiving break. There was no one around and the NY Pavilion is rotting away, giving the Unisphere an eerie vibe. I wish there was more to do in this area; there is a lot of empty space. I recommend as an interesting visit but certainly not a must do unless you like World Expos.

This familiar icon looks just like you expect, from having seen it in movies and on logos for years ... and yet it's better, and bigger, and awe-inspiring. My family (college students and adults) thought I was a bit wacky for wanting to go, yet everyone said, quite genuinely, "Wow!" when it came into view. Flushing Meadows Park is both full of interesting sites and somewhat tricky to navigate thanks to insufficient signage, but if you're looking for the Unisphere, it's behind the Queens Museum of Art, and within easy walking distance of the Queens Theater or the USTA Tennis stadium. Turn off the perimeter road into whatever parking you can find near those buildings, and peer around--you'll see it, and can walk toward it! We went when the fountains were off; I'd love to see the park in summer when all the fountains are on. I'm so happy to have finally seen this in person. (Side note: This area was the site of the 1964 World's Fair, and some of the buildings [e.g., New York State Pavilion] from the fair are still standing, albeit neglected and unused. The area feels a bit like it belongs in the ending of the first Planet of the Apes movie. It's a great testament to steel that the Unisphere still looks almost as fresh and intact as the day it debuted! Hope NYC will spruce things up for the site's 50th anniversary.)

The water around this smelt funny. The visitor is supposed to stare at the object. That is it. Not inspiring.

The Unisphere - blows me away, even thought I never was a fan of globes and of models of the Earth. When the sky is clear, the globe looks like filled with oceans.

The Unisphere in Flushing Meadow Park is always an awesome sight to behold, it is a gargantuan structure all made of steel. I especially love to visit during the US Open Tennis when the water fountains surrounding the Unisphere are in full spectacular display. This steel globe has been an iconic site in Queens since the 1964 World’s Fair which was held in this New York borough. The best and easiest way to get to Unisphere is by taking the number 7 train and get off at Willets Point/City Field Stadium station, walk towards the US Tennis stadium but do not enter, walk around it and further back (after more or less 10 minutes of walking), you’ll see this huge steel of wonder! You can walk around it or bike around it or just gaze at it!

Very cool. Iconic spot. Beautiful foliage in the park this time of year. Queens museum is interesting right next to it. Park there to see unisphere and go into queens museum to see the detailed relief map of nyc 5 boros and interesting art installations.

This is the center point of the park. Visitors like having their pictures taken in front of it, a favorite is to put your hands in the air and pretend to hold up the globe. The water fountain on in the summer and look particularly impressive during the US Open when the water is lite up at night. Young children like to climb around on the low wall that circles it.

The globe and the fountains are pretty impressive and you can get some good pictures as long as you are upwind, otherwise the spray can be a bit wet. Definitely worth a visit if in the area. It has featured in CSI New York on TV ...which was where I first became aware of it.
