A Bronx Tale is a coming of age story about a young boy who becomes enchanted with the life of neighborhood tough guys who are involved in schemes to make money without working. His father is a bus driver for the city and has not inspired his son to that level of income and routine. The father, however, has instilled in his son the virtue of working for a salary and doing one's share to make the community a safe place. Conflict begins when the son becomes more and more involved with tough guys, particularly the so-called leader of the group. He enjoys hanging out with these men in spite of his father's admonitions that he not become a flunky for them. The son enjoys the wages he earns for doing small tasks for the men, but though the lead gang member advises his protege to not run with certain tough school mates, he wants to be part of a group.
As the story unfolds, the young man evidently sees first hand the duplicity of the gang and mainly, the main leader. His father recovers his son and supposedly he continues in school, etc. Worth seeing even though there are brutal scenes of the gang's retribution to those who trespass on their turf.

My family and I love this movie. It is about an Italian family. Robert DeNiro is the dad, and he is trying to raise his son best he can and instill good, moral values in him as he grows up. But when his son witnesses a killing by a mob boss and doesn't snitch, the mob boss takes him under his wing and instills his own street smarts into the kid as he grows up. So the boy sort of gets the best of both worlds even though his dad and the mob boss do not approve of one another's teachings. The boy also falls for a young lady who is of a different race than he is, and conflict arises because of his culture. But you have to watch this in order to see how it all fares out, and you will be surprised at the end.

One of my favorite films. Semi-autobiographical story of Chazz Palminteri growing up in the Little Italy section of the Bronx during the 1960's. Great acting, great story line and great depiction of that time period (although actually filmed in Queens). This film is definitely worth watching. I have also seen the one man play of A Bronx Tale, starring Chazz Palminteri. One of the greatest performances I have ever witnessed. I should probably mention that I grew up in the Bronx during that same time so that may be why I feel so strongly about this movie. It doesn't really matter where you're from or where you grew up. This film is a "must see".

I haven't seen the movie so I can't review it but I can tell you that the price is right and was a savings of about $10 over most places. I lived in the bronx on Arthur Ave there were italian restaurants,pizza stores and such guys on corners singing those great songs that are now oldies.This movie brings back so many memories some brings smiles other memories just wish it was not like that.
When your watching this movie you are drawn into it and when it ends you can't wait to see it again and again because it is so true to life,details, the way so many of us grew up,and of course when you come from New York and grow up in the Bronx,and are Italian you have a very distant accent... like me... if you don't have this movie you need to buy it..

This movie is very well done. I never knew it was a broadway play before a movie but I would love to see it one day. There's was a lot of good elements. The intro. was a great attention getter. Started off with 60's music and telling a life story. It fitted in a really good era when everything change for worst or better. Then there was, my favorite, the local mob they were awesome plus chazz was good as always. The main character had to make choices but he had a lot of support from the head guy and his father. Well, I can go for days but hopefully get the picture :).
