I have been a parent at MTE for 6 years. It has many positives to share - it is a great, welcoming, diverse and supportive community. The teachers and administrators really care about the kids and strive to do what is best for them. The IB program is icing on the cake in teaching them how also to be global citizens and instilling many important character traits (e.g., principled, open-minded, inquisitive). The negatives are probably common for all HISD schools - class sizes are large, there are few extra curricular activities for kids to opt into (i.e., sports) and there is regular churn in the student body. Kids and families are coming and going all of the time. What is most concerning this year is how much the HISD TEA takeover will impact families desire to stay in HISD or move to private school.
A very good school. We like the IB program & the teachers. We are an expat family so it was very important to attend a school that has a nice mix of nationalities and cultures, Twain is very cosmopolitan.
Teacher to pupil ratio is definitely not 17 to 1, more like 23 to 1. My son's classes have had about 25 kids on average. It's a very popular school for expats.
We're sad to be leaving it.

Twain Elementary has great teachers that do a great job teaching the IB curriculum. Twain also has a strong PTO, and very nice campus!
