So I finally did it, I bought an 11 foot 2wt reddington claymore. I have a 23 foot scandi line and a rio running line to go on it. Thought I had a reel I could use for it but I'm thinking its going to be to heavy. I'm hoping to find a click pawl reel for it.
Just not sure what size and weight for a 2 wt spey . One more thing .... right hand retrieve as I'm a southpaw . Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction . Thanks in advance

I recently sold an Orvis Mirage 5wt reel that would have been perfect for the setup. I have a Lamson LP2 but I think it will be too small for you. I'll look in my trickle trunk tomorrow to see if I have anything else here.

i have a fairly large quiver of click/pawl trout spey reels & my favorite for 2-3-4 weight rods is the Iwana 3 1/2" Large Steelhead reel. They make a 3 1/4" steelhead reel which would work well also. I like filling up the 3 1/2" with 30# backing to fill it up so it is basically a large arbor. High quality Bogdan replicas for a very good price.

Another fanboy of the (vintage) Hardy Marquis (or SAs as mentioned above). Bullet proof. Simple. Screaming sound. Easy to switch to L or R retrieve. Great looks. Palming rim. Readily available for moderate prices, ranging in good to mint condition. Best of all for your question, an entire range of sizes to balance to your rod, including the heavier multipliers. Figure out the weight you need and then check out the published reel weights. I found the 8/9 balanced my rod perfectly.

Great ideas . I have a Medalist but its to small to hold the head and running line. I have a size IV lampson liquid that might be an option I also have a Ross Fly Water size IV I have rigged for nymphing , but I'm afraid it may be to heavy. I like the idea of a click pawl reel. It has been a long time since I've heard a reel sing.
I guess I'm going to be on the look out for a used Hardy. I was looking at the orvis cfo but not sure they will be big enough for the line.

Thanks for the info guys .

I run an Orvis SSR Disc III on my Echo TR Trout Spey rod and as of yesterday (first trip with it) I'm pretty pleased. I haven't had a chance to test the drag yet (the fish yesterday were feisty, but not all that big) but it does have a satisfying click to it when pulling line out. It seems to balance my rod quite well.

For a 15' 8wt rod, I personnaly find balance on a swing is important for long day fishing for winter steelhead. For trout rods, especially SH, the emphasis on light reels is too much and would state is misplace. So the current crop of 3-4 ounce reels is money not well spent.

Changing tack, what is important - you want enough capacity for you line and not have to concentrate on how you spool it, so pick any 6+wt reel that fits your budget and fancy. For my ACR 11'7" 3wt I use a St Aiden. A Hardy Princess was fine, though a little light and I had a St Aiden. POST SUBMISSION ADD: between light and heavy, I will go to heavy to help with keeping the tip up.

Oh yes, fighting the light reel craze - I use the Hardy Princess on all SH rods from 4wt to 6wt - graphite, fiberglass and bamboo reels. So I have many spools and just a few reels.

More modern, think Daniellson --- the original 2W a little big and Dry Fly a little small, but a F3W would be fine.

Oh yes, I believe one of the best reasons for large arbour for trout is NOT speed of retreive, but the diameter you are keeping the line at.

The cool thing about both examples, I can still get spools, so a change out to another rod or line is simple.

I use a Dannielsson 3W on a 10' Jame Green with 360 grain Airflo Streamer Float spey. Danielsson is commited to supporting their orginal products and this reels i bought for steelhead 24 years ago.

And a Aiden on the ACR 1173, and there are so many hardy, you can find at auction houses.

@coug "wish they still made them". This is one of my complaints with many reel with reel manufacturers - Hatch, Abel, Nautilus et cetera and those who "white label" someone else's like Vision, Sage.

I sure do not know everyone, but I appreciate those that provide the spools and reels for than a few years, like Danielsson, though they do not make the old Loop 2 or 3, just 2w and 3w.

Well I ordered a reel . Didnt find a deal I could make work so I ordered an Orvis Battenkill 3 click pawl. Not exactly what I wanted but hopefully will work so I can get out and work on my casting and hopefully get into a few fish . I am thinking this will fill the bill with out breaking the bank.. If it doesn't I can repurpose it to a 6 wt nymph rod.
Thanks to everyone who replied.
