Northwest Career & Technical Academy High School Reviews

My experience with Northwest CTA is a complicated one. To begin there is not diversity in the school. As an African American student attending the school there has been multiple occasions where I am the only African American in the entire class. There are many cases of mistreatment when it comes to the hall monitors dealing with other students that involve yelling and being rude in general. However the education you receive is able to prepare you for college. As a senior I take three AP classes and it is teaching me how to manage my school, personal, and social life. I am learning the best study method for me, that actually helps me to retain information.
NECTA is a very rough school to get adjusted to, with the self-paced learning and an overload of work. If you're not used to a homeschool/self-paced way of learning, or you're not good with it, do not consider coming here. Some of the majors you can learn in a trade school after high school. Some majors are boring, not challenging at all, or very challenging. The school doesn't have any sports teams, and only after school activities. In all, this school is very limited, and newcomers will have a tough time.
At Northwest CTA, every year has been very hit or miss. My Freshman year was not a very great year, and I actually can't remember much of both freshman or sophomore year due to stress and just zoning out to get through it. My mindset has been essentially to just get through high school, survive it and don't give up. I can say that NWCTA does a great job of preparing students for college, workplace readiness, and it is truly a good educational experience. That being said, any other goal you may have (to excel in sports, arts, etc) will be more difficult to achieve here. Socially it is much like any other high school in Las Vegas, there are still really smart people and really dumb people. It's a pretty average school, but better than most in terms of educational opportunity.
