Hellgate is a very open and welcoming high school near downtown Missoula, that has many opportunities for students. This includes the vast sports, arts and academic programs available, as well as surrounding community involvement chances. Staff and administration work for the betterment of the students, although some can be difficult and set in more traditional ways, which are messy when applied to today's standards, in education, btu also generally.
I have been a student at hellgate high school for the past 3 years and I do believe my high school experience has been average compared to others. I have been apart of two school sanctioned sports and multiple clubs and have learned a lot and got a lot of experiences within those things which I will remember for the rest of my life. Our school environment has great spirit and things like the golden goat game have really improved my high school experience. However there are bad sides, from points were a lot of times my classes cant get a sub so we have class in the cafeteria with 110 students, being in two lockdowns, one being about 3 hours long, not knowing if the rumors are true or if there is someone with a gun, sitting in the weight room starving cause you sat there through lunch and sitting their shaking because you had to run out of the locker room to get somewhere safe. Or not having many AP or IB courses to advance my education. With every plus side there is a bad side.
The teachers for the most part are great, while some do show preference for the student athletes. The IB program was very unorganized and set many students back with scholarships for college, but they have since moved onto the AP class system. Many electives are offered, and many music and art classes are very good. Students often flourish in academics, sports, and artistic endeavours all at the same time.
Hellgate HS really encourages students to get involved in their school, with clubs, organizations, sports, and the arts. I appreciate this because being involved makes high school so much more rewarding!
So far my highschool experience is going pretty good and I'm excited to see what else hellgate can help me become. There sports program is really great I love there volleyball coaches and everything is just amazing
Hellgate is a very nice school. There is plenty to do with the various sports, clubs, and fun classes that are offered. Hellgate is in my opinion the best highschool in Missoula. The culture of Hellgate is very special as we all come together to support our athletes and clubs. I have had some personal troubles regarding councilors giving me false information, but other than that my teachers have been very helpful. Hellgate has given me opportunities to play soccer which is my passion and something that I really appreciate.
I feel really lucky to have gone to high school at Hellgate. It was a very formative experience in that I felt well prepared for university after graduating. I had amazing teachers who took the time to get to know me and my learning style. I learned more in some classes here than I did while in university. I still see and talk to some of my teachers today! I think that there is/was an overall sense of school pride that was appropriate and helped form a sense of community (but wasn't really over done). I think that the music and sports programs (specifically swimming, soccer, and orchestra) were really well done.
No support from counselling and very limited AP offerings. Otherwise, nice teachers and some are very committed. Others, like my son's AP Lang teacher, quit half way through the year.
They have great mental health services including guidance counselor a psychiatrist and social worker we have access to a blue room where when a student is having a bad day in school or at home we can blue card and spend time in a room to calm our selves down and speak to an adult.
I like the teachers at Hellgate High School. They are nice and helpful. There's a good selection of classes. The school itself is nice. There are a lot of extracurricular activities - athletics and clubs. There is something for everyone. I feel like I have a lot of support from the staff.
I like the community there, everyone’s very accepting and supportive about what you want to do or be at the moment.
Hellgate High school is known for many things, most notably its school spirit. Hellgate's mascot is the Knight, and we knights are passionate individuals. Hellgate has many strong academic departments, wonderful music programs, and many strong sports teams, many of which qualify to compete at AA state championships every year.
Coming from a volatile home situation, going to school was often my safe haven. This was especially true during my time attending Hellgate, specifically because of the unmistakable amount of effort that a considerable amount of teachers put into their work every day to ensure that their students felt respectful, successful, and overall supported by providing things like daily check-ins, empathy, and an open mind. While this didn't always apply to every teacher (no one is perfect, personal experience varies), I remember the ones that really stood out to me - not because they were perfect by any means, but because you could tell that they really cared about their kids. I could come in some mornings feeling altogether hopeless at times. Because of teachers like that, I would almost always walk out feeling like someone was looking out for me. It goes to show how much of a lasting impact one person can have on another just by showing that they sincerely care.
The 4 years that I have spent smiling, laughing, and working at Hellgate High School have been WONDERFUL. I can't imagine growing both mentally and academically in any other Highschool in the nation. The people I have met and the opportunities that I have been granted here are what make me the woman I am today.
Hellgate has a plethora of sports teams that feel more like family than friends along with the supportive coaches. The majority of teachers make the lessons interesting and prepare you well for exams.
Unfortunately at Hellgate there were no computer science or coding clubs until I arrived. Seeking to increase the minimal opportunity for students to interface with computer science at my school, I had to contact the head of the University of Montana’s Computer Science department.
Despite this circumstance, Hellgate Highschool has a wide variety of clubs, areas of study, and students who together create a positive atmosphere!

Hellgate has a very good arts program. All the teachers are very motivated to help the students succeed. I think they could do better by adding more language classes and science classes.
Overall, I am very happy to have attended Hellgate Highschool.

I like the people and the welcoming atmosphere. I would like to see the smaller clubs like the art clubs gain more attention.
Hellgate high school is very open and caring about its students. They like to help a student whenever they can. This is one of my favorite things about the school and just how everyone is involved with each other. One thing I would like to see changes is he parking space, there is juts no room for anyone to park
