Your experience in Prague will never be complete if you do not see it from the top. Hillsides, stretched from the west to the north, provide spectacular views of greenish copper cupolas, narrow cobblestone streets, bridges connecting both river banks and green gardens from red-roof tops of centuries-old houses. Prague pulls you into its 1300 year old history. Walking up the hill or stairs to Prague Castle, the historical seat of Czech rulers and the majestic Saint Vitus Cathedral can leave you speechless (and out of breath). Luckily, plenty of terrace cafés overlooking gardens and beautiful parks are available to provide rest and a place to catch your breath again.

    Must do Prague sight
If you are in Prague for more than a day you are probably going to visit the Castle and the cathedral which is within in. You can visit the exterior of the cathedral and view part of the interior without a ticket. To view it properly you need to purchase a ticket as part of one of the palace visit options. There is a also a separate charge to climb the tower. This is a quite a tough climb with lots of steps and fairly narrow. However the views from the top are amazing and you see the clock and bells as well so would recommend it if you are fit. There is a lot to see in the actual cathedral and it is very historic and beautiful building. It can get very busy so probably best to visit early rather than the middle of the day

A feast for the eyes and history buff!
Though very crowded, I was enthralled with history and beauty of this catholic cathedral! I particularly loved seeing the stained glass window hand-painted by artist Alphonse Mucha and the silver tomb of St. John of Nepomuk. The church is also the Royal Mausoleum for Ferdinand I & his wife. Breathtaking! Each side chapel has something spectacular to see and study, and I recommend you spend time in the Chapel of St. Wenceslaus with its wall frescoes of the patron saint's life and other religious scenes with semi precious stones decorating them. The entrance fee was included with our Prague castle ticket.

    Beautiful inside and out.
You can enter the main hallway for free and get a look and some photos... however it is crowded. If you get the ticket you can go all around and see some spectacular alcoves, chapels, stained glass, the silver tomb of Saint John, St. Wenceslas Chapel and more.

Fantastic architecture like most other things in Prague. You can only look in awe at what was built and saved over the years.

If you’ve been to Prague, then you’ve absolutely seen this. Towering over everything else and sitting up on the castle hill, this is the most prominent and noticeable point in the city. You can’t help but look at it and be drawn to the unique beauty of it from all angles. Up close, you can see why it looks so big up on the hill.....because it is. Make sure to walk around the church and get if from all angles to see the intricate work. On the inside, it is very striking. Like so many gothic churches in Europe, it’s a bit dark inside but here as well, you must take some time to look at it from all the angles to really catch how amazing it is.

An amazing building, although odd, all kinds of styles and perspectives smushed together in one church. Great to see just for that, but it's also beautiful. If you have any sensitivity to must and mildew bring a mask - extreme histamine warning!

Beautiful piece of architectural work. It is a must to get inside even is too crowded. But the beauty of the church worth a little bit more admiration. For us St Vitus Cathedral was the preferred one from entire Prague Castle complex.

The St. Vitus Cathedral is beautiful, but there are some places that are off limits without going on a special guided tour - specifically, you cannot enter the Royal Crypt or the St. Wenceslas Chapel. The tour begins inside the information center next to the cathedral. You skip ahead of the ridiculously long line to enter and begin with a standard tour. After looking at the tomb of St. John of Nepomuk, we were taken down to the Royal Crypt where you can see the original foundations of the church (there were two previous churches on the site) and the sarcophagi of Charles IV and his four wives, Rudolf II, Wenceslas IV, among others. Afterwards, you head back up to the St. Wenceslas Chapel - all other visitors have to stand behind the ropes and look in through the doorway. You get an up close view of everything including the door with seven locks that leads to the room that holds the St. Wenceslas Crown. No, you don't get to see the crown, but the door itself is pretty interesting. The tour guide spoke excellent English and was extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the cathedral. It was a bit expensive, but it might be worth it if you are interested in history. I would definitely go if you qualify for the half-price tickets. The only downside was that the information center was completely chaotic due to the crowds, but I guess that's to be expected during Prague's high season.

The tours cost 600 CZK for adults and 300 CZK for children, students, people over 65. They are very limited in availability (a few times per month) and are capped at 10 people. Google "Prague Castle For Visitors Guided Tour" and access the official hrad.cz website. The link takes you to a third party website called Reservatic. If you do go on the tour, a few words of advice - you need to check-in and pay at the information center that is across from the St. Vitus Cathedral entrance and ONLY at the last window on the right - it's the one next to the entrance to the gift shop. I would recommend that you access the information center through the gift shop that is located in the tunnel just before you get to the third courtyard from the Hradcany Square side of Prague Castle.

I had to queue for a few minutes to get into the cathedral, but wow it was totally worth it! This might be the most beautiful part of the Prague Castle complex, in my opinion

One of the lovelier gothic cathedrals we have visited. Certainly others are grander in size, but the stained glass windows rival and exceed in beauty any we've seen. Mucha window was spectacular!
