IPL 2014 - Statistical Highlights

There were quite a few milestones achieved in the 2014 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). A winning streak, an Indian record, a captaincy record, quickest knocks, hat-tricks or ducks, they were all there in the IPL 7.

IPL 2014 - Statistical Highlights:

• Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who were the champions in 2012, lifted the coveted trophy for the second time. In doing so, they became only the second team after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to secure two IPL titles.

• The win in the final against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) was Kolkata's ninth victory on the trot, making it the best streak for a team in the Indian Premier League. The previous best was Punjab's 8-match winning-streak from May 2013 to April 2014.

• Robin Uthappa ended the tournament with 660 runs from 16 matches to finish as this edition's highest run-scorer. He became only the second Indian after Sachin Tendulkar to win the Orange Cap.

• Uthappa's tally of runs is the most scored by an Indian in a single edition of the tournament. He went past Virat Kohli, who had scored 634 runs in the previous edition of the IPL.

• Glenn Maxwell was named the player of the tournament for the seventh edition of the IPL. He became the first KXIP player to win the Man of the Series award.

• In the match between Kolkata and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Yusuf Pathan blasted a half-century off just 15 balls, making it the fastest fifty in the Indian Premier League.

• Suresh Raina scored the second fastest fifty in the IPL (off 16 balls) and the fastest for CSK when he scored a superb 87 off just 25 balls in the Qualifier 2 match against KXIP.

• Maxwell got out in the 90s three times in this edition of the Indian Premier League. He now holds the record for the most 90+ scores in the league, followed by Suresh Raina, Shane Watson, Virat Kohli and Virender Sehwag, who have two scores apiece in the 90s.

• Sunil Narine picked up a four wicket haul in the first match against the Mumbai Indians (MI) to become the first Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowler to get to 50 wickets in the Indian Premier League. He also became the fastest to 50 wickets.

• Kings XI Punjab posted 200+ totals 4 times in this edition of the IPL - most by a team in a single edition of the league. Three such totals came against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who have conceded 200+ totals 4 times against KXIP overall.

• Suresh Raina, during his knock against Kings XI Punjab on May 7, went past 3000 runs in the IPL. Raina, who became the first player to score 3000 or more in the T20 League, took his tally to 3325 runs at the end of the 2014 season. Rohit Sharma is next on the list with 2903 runs.

• Suresh Raina and Gautam Gambhir extended their tally of half-centuries to 23. They are now atop the list for most fifties scored in the IPL, followed by Rohit Sharma, who has 21. On the list of most 50+ scores, Raina tops the list with 24 and is followed by Gambhir with 23.

• CSK's win against KKR on May 3 was Mahendra Singh Dhoni's 100th win as captain of a T20 team. CSK won 5 more games after that and Dhoni, with 105 wins as skipper, is the only one to have more than 100 wins as a T20 captain. In distant second is Gautam Gambhir with 55 wins.

• Rajasthan Royals' match against Kolkata Knight Riders ended in a tie and the Super Over too finished with scores level. RR won the game on boundary count, making it the first time for a team to secure a victory in this fashion in the IPL. This was also the second tied match between RR and KKR, making them the only teams in the IPL to have participated in two ties.

• Shane Watson and Pravin Tambe picked up hat-tricks in the matches against KKR and SRH respectively. Rajasthan, with 3 hat-tricks including that of Ajit Chandila in the 2012 edition, have picked the the most hat-tricks in the IPL. Chennai and Punjab have two players who have taken hat-tricks (CSK - L Balaji and Makhaya Ntini and KXIP - Yuvraj Singh twice).

• Jacques Kallis, who scored a half-century in the opening match of IPL 7 against Mumbai Indians (MI) went past 2000 runs in the IPL. He became the only player in the league with 2000+ runs and 50+ wickets.

• Gautam Gambhir got out without scoring in his first three outings in the 7th edition to extend his tally of ducks in the IPL to 10. He now shares the top spot for most ducks in the T20 League with Amit Mishra. Piyush Chawla, Manish Pandey, Harbhajan Singh and Jacques Kallis are the ones to follow in the list with 9 ducks apiece.

• Pravin Tambe started this IPL at the age of 42 years and 192 days, becoming the oldest player to appear in an IPL game. He surpassed Brad Hogg, who played his last IPL game for Rajasthan Royals (RR) last year at the age of 42 years and 86 days.

• Two Indians scored hundreds in this IPL while there was only one by a foreign player. This is the first time that Indians have more hundreds than overseas players in a single edition of the league. Hundreds tally over the editions: IPL 2008 - 6 hundreds, 6 Foreigners (F), 0 Indians (I); IPL 2009 - 2 hundreds, 1 F, 1 I; IPL 2010 - 4 hundreds, 2 F, 2 I; IPL 2011 - 6 hundreds, 3 F, 3 I; IPL 2012 - 6 hundreds, 3 F, 3 I; IPL 2013 - 4 hundreds, 3 F, 1 I; IPL 2014 - 3 hundreds. 1 F, 2 I.

• In this edition of the IPL, four-wicket hauls or more were taken 12 times. This is the joint third highest in a single season along with the 2009 edition. The most four-wicket hauls were taken in 2012 (18 times) followed by 2011 (13 times). The 2010 edition was the least (6 times).

• Dinesh Karthik and MS Dhoni extended their tally of wicket-keeping dismissals to 66. They are now jointly second and just one shy of Adam Gilchrist, who occupies the top spot.

• Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Robin Uthappa, Dinesh Karthik, Yusuf Pathan and Gautam Gambhir all extended their tally of IPL games past 100 in this edition of the tournament. Raina tops the list with 115 matches, followed by Dhoni and Rohit, who have played 112 each.

• Delhi Daredevils (DD), with only 2 wins in the 2014 edition, finished as the bottom-placed side this year. This was their 3rd last-place finish in the last four years and they are the only side to have finished last more than once.
