2017 AD. Researchers and scholars of both Magecraft and science have been gathered to maintain human civilization under the Chaldea Security Organization. But calculations then proved the extinction of humanity in 2019. The cause is "realms that cannot be observed" that suddenly appeared in various eras of history, called "Singularities." Ritsuka Fujimaru, the one Master remaining in Chaldea, has been intervening within these Singularites, alongside the Demi-Servant Mash Kyrielight. He has been attending to the forbidden rituals to resolve or destroy the Singularities: the "Grand Order."

A worthy entry to a magnificent series

Note: To avoid confusion, there is a short one hour movie that serves as a prequel to this anime, Fate Grand Order: First Order; it's available on Crunchyroll. While episode 0 of this anime is a prequel to the movie. Episode 0 -> Movie -> Episode 2 onwards of this anime, that's the chronological order of this Fate route. With that out of the way, Fate Babylonia is an anime adaption of the mobile phone game Fate Grand Order. In the year 2017 CE a destructive singularity fully developed due to a strange turn of events that happened during the Holy Grail War in 2004. The Chaldea organization is tasked to develop new masters so they, along with their servants, can destroy the singularity that will bring the extinction of mankind. It is not completely necessary to play the game to understand this plot but it will help you understand more about the lore, character backgrounds, etc. The game is divided into 7 chapters/routes so to speak and this anime follows the 7th chapter exclusively but with some light references to the other 6. As for how it holds up as a entry to this franchise, it's a worthy one. Every element you expect from the Fate series is here: Flashy and high octane action fights with dazzling effects, smooth animation, enjoyable characters, easy to follow plot, appropriate pacing, great art style, gender swapping of historical figures, light waifu material, and so on. As a fan of this series, I wholeheartedly recommend any followers of the Fate franchise to give this anime a watch; and of course to those that aren't to use this one as a starting point to a series regarded as one of the best action anime out there.

Everything I could've dreamed of!

This adaptation not only pays its dues to the source material, it goes above and beyond and brings true justice to the Babylonia chapter of FGO! Everything is absolutely breathtaking from the (Quartz and salt fueled) animation, the new voice work from the original cast, and all of the new nuances added from Cloverworks. If this is the future of Fate animation, then I am so ready!

Excellent adaptation

This show is based on a mobile game. This season specifically follows the 7th singularity, skipping 1-6 but showing flashbacks of them on occasion. Keep that in mind. There are parts of the overall story missing, but if you watch this expecting that and enjoying the direct story of this singularity, you won't be disappointed. Singularity 6 will be animated as a movie and released soon as well, really looking forward to that.

I've watched enough to leave a review now

Just to clarify, I am a fan of the game so I wanted to wait until the 12th episode was released on here to leave a review so I could see how the animation holds up on its own. Well, I don't want to wait until the 12 episode anymore lol I'm very happy with the adaptation! It has the OST from the game and the animation is good. Each episode has been a delight to watch and brings up fond memories. I wish they had gone with a few of the eccentric lines in the game since it would have made Ritsuka seem less bland. The plus side is the level of detail they put into the servants! Before watching this I thought Ushiwakamaru was a good servant but WOW they really made me see her in a different light! I'm looking forward to getting the box set when it releases for NA I highly recommend playing the game first. This is suppose to be the seventh singularity so that means a lot of this isn't going to make a lick of sense if you haven't played the game.

If you're wondering why we only have Ep 0

IIRC, I remember reading somewhere that Funimation has streaming rights for a month(?), so it probably wont get released to Crunchyroll until then. Funimation releases the episodes weekly anyways, though you'll be an episode behind the premium users(nothing new). In terms of content and animation though, I can only say this: I now know where the money whales spend went. Honestly really good animation(bit excessive on fanservice, but whatever) and I'm really excited to see a certain blonde Rin face show up soon.
