King Suddhodana explains to Gautama Siddhartha that he is destined to be a great leader

In Ancient Central Nepal, Kapilavastu, a prince by the name of Gautama Siddhartha (later known as Gautama Buddha) lived in the royal palace with the best of everything within his grasp, the best status, clothing, food, dwelling and education. Siddhartha's father, King Suddhodana, approached a fortune teller when Siddhartha was an infant, who prophesied that his son would be a great and respected leader, stating that he would become the greatest among all of humanity and destined to rule the world. During his adolescent years, Siddhartha headed to the nation of Malla, which lies in Ancient North India, to meet his distant relative, King Jataka, who was bedridden due to terminal illness, and did not have much longer left to live.

Siddhartha complimented Jataka on how much Malla had prospered since his reign, with the citizens leading delightful and satisfactory lives, and that Jataka was fortunate to lead such a wonderful and happy life. However, Jataka disagrees, stating that all this time, he had been living a life dictated by those above him since birth, born only to rule the nation, and never had a chance to explore the vast, limitless outside world. During Jataka's funeral, Siddhartha recalled his conversation, and began to question that the life he had been living all along.

He realized that his life so far was no different from Jataka's, having his own will and fate dictated and imposed by other people since the beginning and having been raised to rule his kingdom. This realization resulted in him attaining enlightenment. Siddhartha barged into Jataka's funeral ceremony, and placed his coffin on a river stream to fulfill his lifelong wish of exploring the outside world, much to everyone else's horror and chagrin. Following Jataka's funeral, Siddhartha cast away his royalty, along with his wife and son, giving up his possessions and set out into the wilderness, travelling alone and opposing religions that imposed fate upon innocent beings, such as human sacrifices, stating that if the gods want to harm anyone, he will gladly take them on. Siddhartha also founded his own religion, Buddhism, and later became known to many as the Buddha, as he continued traveling place to place to ease people's suffering and guiding them to the path of achieving enlightenment.

During his travels, Buddha walked passed Zerofuku with emaciated people and animals that were content with their lives. Buddha's acts of altruism influenced the villagers whose misfortune was taken by Zerofuku to stop being depraved and selfish. Zerofuku asked Buddha on why the humans with him looked so happy even though he had absorbed the village's misfortune. Buddha disagreed with Zerofuku's methods and told him that "Happiness isn't something you can give to other people. It's something you've got to attain yourself." Buddha offered Zerofuku a chance to reach enlightenment with him, but Zerofuku ran away crying.

Fifth Round[]

Loki meets Buddha anime

Buddha meets with Loki in the arena garden

During the fifth fight, Loki went backstage to meet with Buddha. Buddha assumed Loki wanted a fight, but he waved his hands, stating that he simply wanted to 'ask Buddha something'. Loki went into a long explanation on how the humans had managed to both corner and kill the gods, but stated that there was something he didn't understand. A Völundr wasn't always strong enough to allow a human to defeat a god, which is when he pointed to "Common Destiny".

Loki asks Buddha if he is a traitor

Loki accuses Buddha of treason

Loki says that by using the power of Devotion, and entrusting ones' soul to another, the power the humans now wield could be achieved. Buddha mocked Loki, stating that his explanation was so long he stopped listening halfway into it. Loki got up and asked directly if Buddha had betrayed the gods. Buddha didn't deny it, resulting in a brief standoff between the two before Bishamonten and the rest of the Seven Lucky Gods appeared.

Buddha, Kojiro, Soji and Isami team up

Buddha is helped by Kojiro Sasaki, Soji Okita and Isami Kondo to fight Loki and the Seven Lucky Gods

Siding with Loki in this matter, they too confronted Buddha by chanting "Divine Punishment" as they approached the pair. Buddha didn't back down, instead confronting them all. When Ebisu tried to reach for Buddha, he crushed the lolipop in his mouth and spat the stick through Ebisu's hand. Ebisu and the Seven Lucky Gods readied themselves for combat, but Loki stopped them, stating that Buddha is his prey alone. Before anything else could happen, Kojiro Sasaki showed up to see what was going on, along with Soji Okita and his friend Isami Kondo. The three new arrivals took Buddha's side. Buddha stood patiently as the others talked, and Ebisu, now enraged, stopped Loki from charging so he could shoot four shots at Buddha. Buddha maneuvered out of the way easily, much to Ebisu's surprise. A surprised Loki finally decided that he was going to kill Buddha, manifesting chains from his hands and running at him.

Odin showing off his aura

Zeus and Odin show up in the arena garden and order everyone to stop fighting

Before could reach Buddha's group, a large figure separated the two groups of fighters, Zeus, who was accompanied by Odin had arrived. Odin's crows and Zeus chastised the gods for fighting amongst themselves, especially at a time like this. Ebisu tried to point out that Odin and Zeus have no jurisdiction over them, but Odin shut him up by intimidating the whole group. Despite everyone seemingly growing nervous at Odin's intimidating presence, Buddha did not seem to care.

Zeus warned Buddha not to start any more fights, but Buddha simply broke out laughing. Zeus joining in on the laughter before Buddha crushed another lollipop in his mouth, calmly stating as he leaves: "The only one that can move me, on heaven or Earth, is me".

As Buddha headed back to the arena, he encountered Brunhilde as she exited her shrine. Buddha told Brunhilde that he would fight in the sixth round on humanity's side. He told Brunhilde that he knew how much she had been preparing for Ragnarok, ever since when Buddha gave the valkyries their Völundr ability. Buddha asked Brunhilde if she realized from the start that learning Völundr from him in order to fight the gods would also make him an enemy of the gods along with her, and told her that he will not let that go. As Buddha was leaving, Brunhilde trembled in fear.

He walked to the arena with his staff on his shoulders while chewing gum and blowing a bubble. The Buddhist monks from the human audience silently prayed to Buddha to not destroy humanity while the other humans were terrified of him. Heimdall confusedly asked him what he was doing as he spat his chewing gum on Heimdall's hand and took his gjallarhorn. Buddha spoke through the gjallarhorn and bluntly said that he was fighting for humanity. The entire audience was shocked by his declaration as the gods became furious and cursed Buddha for his betrayal to the gods. Buddha then crushed Heimdall's gjallarhorn with his bare hand and intimidated the god audience to silence.

Buddha warns Odin anime

He then slammed his staff on the floor and told the entire audience that if the gods wouldn't save humanity, he himself would save them and any god who got in his way would be killed. Heimdall protested and told Buddha that they already had 13 human and god combatants and thought it was absurd for Buddha to be on humanity's side. Zeus appeared in the arena and told Heimdall about the Valhalla Constitution, article No. 62, paragraph 15 of the Super Special Clause, that each of the gods and humans must send out 13 warriors and the first to get seven victories wins. Zeus told them about the loophole on how any combatant who is listed in Ragnarok can fight in future rounds even if they had won their previous fight. Odin stood up from his seat in the audience and questioned Buddha, asking if he really wanted to make an enemy of all the gods.

Buddha told everyone that it doesn't matter of what the circumstances are and only he is the "honored one". The god audience continues to curse him and Buddha goaded them to fight him. Bishamonten and the Seven Lucky Gods later made their appearance in the arena on a flying boat while singing a short tune on how they will now deliver "Heaven's punishment" to Buddha.

Zeus entrusted the task on Bishamonten to kill Buddha as the gods representative in the sixth round. Heimdall announced Bishamonten as the god's sixth fighter and told the other Lucky Gods that only Bishamonten can fight the sixth round. Bishamonten corrected Heimdall on how the Seven Lucky Gods were originally one god. The Seven Lucky Gods fused together into Zerofuku to fight against Buddha. He did some stretching and ripped his giant axe: the Misery Cleaver, out from his spine, as he unleashed his killer intent and hatred.

Before he could swing though, Buddha kicked him in the gut, not recognizing him at all. Zerofuku stayed on his knees, crying and salivating. The god of misfortune complained that he couldn't breathe as he coughed on the ground. Buddha asked if Zerofuku still wanted to fight, as the god coughed up blood and complained more. As he cursed and cried, his weapon started to absorb his misery, growing in size. Zero quickly got to his feet and swung his axe into the ground, which Buddha avoided. Zerofuku looked up in confusion, wondering how he'd missed.

He swung and missed again, getting more and more frustrated. He eventually devolved into swinging the Misery Cleaver randomly, hoping to get a glancing hit, but Buddha dodged it every time. Zerofuku's misery increased as the audience of gods started to doubt him, wondering if Bishamonten would have been better.

Zerofuku's increasing anguish resulted in his axe growing further, sprouting spikes all around. He swung the huge weapon down again, creating a rift in the ground going up to the stands. Buddha still avoided the attack, further angering Zero. The unfortunate god continued swinging his massive Misery Cleaver, still not being able to get a hit in.

Buddha complimented Zero, who screamed in hate. He continued missing, until he shouted at Buddha to stop screwing with him, as he'd only been dodging. Buddha immediately hit him with the butt of his staff, saying he'd fight whenever he wanted to. Zerofuku swung at him again and missed, complaining about his hurt jaw and languishing about not being able to get a hit in. Buddha told him about his Eight Consciousness, saying that he snuck a peek, after which Zerofuku seethed in hatred.

He called Buddha a cheater as misery overwhelmed him, causing him to swing rapidly at Buddha, still missing every time. Buddha counterattacked with his staff, dodging every attack and hitting one of his own. As the audience cheered for Buddha, Zerofuku's grief increased. Zerofuku's intense emotions got channeled into his Misery Cleaver, Buddha noticing the increase in power. Buddha remarked that Zero was the one cheating, seeing the attack coming. The enlightened one froze in place as the weapon had grown the largest it had ever been, towering over both fighters. The axe sprouted multiple blades many times the size of Buddha, as everyone watched on in awe. Zerofuku finally swung the massive weapon down, completely enveloping Buddha and creating a massive crater.

Buddha using the Shield of Ahimusa

Finally using his weapon, Buddha turned his staff into the Fourth Realm: Asura Realm, Eleven Faced Kannon - Ahimsa, a big shield he used to protect himself from the attack. Buddha assured Zero that he'd help him with his puberty, as Zerofuku yelled in rage. Buddha proceeded to push Zerofuku's giant weapon away with his shield. Zerofuku then turned the Misery Cleaver into a large rod covered in spikes. Buddha in turn transformed his staff into the Third Realm: Animal Realm, Horse-Faced Kannon - Nirvana, a big spiked club. Zero swung the Misery Cleaver overhead, as Buddha rushed towards him. The sage turned his run into a slide and hit Zero's abdomen with his club, drawing blood. Buddha asked Zerofuku to get to his feet, as the god yelled in rage. The two clashed with their respective weapons, Zerofuku's cleaver had shrunken back down into an axe. Zerofuku slammed the ground with the cleaver, missing Buddha. This time, the back of the weapon suddenly transformed into spikes, Buddha barely being able to block it with his club.

Staff of the Six Realms - Axe of Lokapala

Buddha uses First Realm: Divine Realm, Wish-Granting Wheel Kannon - Loka Pala against Zerofuku

Zero gripped the hilt of his weapon tightly in rage, eventually tearing it into two. The Misery Cleaver then transformed into twin blades which had a connected hilt, akin to nunchaku. Buddha's weapon turned into the First Realm: Divine Realm, Wish Granting Wheel Kannon - Lokapala, a giant halberd. The two fought with their new weapons, neither getting the upper hand until Buddha leapt into the air. Zero blocked the aerial attack, and tried to slash at Buddha but missed. He sliced at humanity's fighter, but Buddha was able to block his attacks by spinning his halberd. This threw Zerofuku off balance, which led to Buddha slicing his torso with the top of his halberd. Zero backed away and cried, his weapon transforming yet again. This time, a plant-like bulb spawned from the hilt, eventually opening to create a storm of homing blades as Zero yelled for Buddha to die.

To counter this hail of blades, Buddha transformed his divine weapon into the Second Realm: Human Realm, Unshakeable Cord Kannon - Akshaya, a supposedly unbreakable vajra short sword. The blades tracked Buddha, but he was still able to avoid them or clash his sword with them and destroy them. The blades also headed to the audience, with Buddha saving both the god and humanity sides. Eventually Buddha got through the hail and reached Zero, complimenting his puberty, much to Zerofuku's confusion. The audience cheered for Buddha, infuriating Zero.

Finally reaching his breaking point, Zerofuku screamed for attention, asking why no one cared for him. at the same time creating a tendril from his axe that missed Buddha yet again. Buddha responded by saying that one is truly one's own master, and that he should just love himself.

Buddha and Zerofuku exchange blows

Zerofuku was confused by this, and lashed out at Buddha. The enlightened one blocked the attack and expressed his liking towards Zero, confusing him even more. Zerofuku shouted at Buddha to stop giving inconclusive answers, but was taken aback by his aura. The misery in his heart faded as his Misery Cleaver shrunk down to just the handle. Buddha dropped his weapon and told Zerofuku that he looked nice. He put up his fists and beckoned for a barehanded brawl. Zerofuku obliged as the two fought each other without weapons. The two fought happily until Buddha knocked Zerofuku out with a fist to the face.

As Zerofuku lay on the floor, his body reverted back to his original form; he was now completely devoid of misery and was the same happy god he had been all those years ago. He cried tears of happiness, as he vowed to make others happy by first loving himself. This was tragically cut short as the horns on his head detached.

While he vowed to change, the horns burrowed into his temples, causing him to rise to his feet in agony. Buddha questioned Zero, trying to figure out what was happening to his new friend. The horns grew in size and forcefully entered his chest and mouth, and spawned two massive dragons. Zerofuku manically screamed in pain, as this was not what he had wanted. Hajun's darkness had disabled Buddha's Eight Consciousness ability, he was now unable to see into the future. Buddha kept his sword ready and questioned Hajun about Zero's whereabouts, with Hajun only responding with the fact that he was gone and no longer existed. He then introduced himself. He stated that he did not know what he was, only that he wanted to test out his strength and new body out on Buddha. He asked Buddha to forgive him if he finished the fight too quickly, forming a blade out of his arm. The berserker clashed his weapon with Buddha's short sword, the sheer impact causing the ground to crumble underneath humanity's fighter. Hajun expressed sarcastic surprise over Buddha blocking his attack, immediately launching into a series of quick attacks with his blade arm.

Hajun told Buddha that he had consumed him, saying that he provided good sustenance and that he was lower than dirt. His taunts were interrupted by an enraged Buddha. Who screamed at him and told him to shut up. He remarked that Hajun had made this fight easier, and now Buddha had no reservations and would put his all into killing the berserker. The god's staff reacted to his rage, transforming into a large scythe, the Fifth Realm: Preta Realm, Holy Kannon - Salakayas.

Hajun laughed it off, calling it pathetic. Hajun smiled with delight as he commented about how refreshing it was to crush insects like Buddha. He tried to impale Buddha, who swung his scythe at the berserker, an attack called Karma-Destroying Samsara Cycle. Hajun easily blocked it, though the force started to push him back, much to his surprise. The scythe almost beheaded him, but he dodged it and counterattacked. Buddha used Karma-Destroying Samsara Cycle: Eternal, attacking faster than Hajun could.

The Demon Lord of the Sixth Heaven reacted in shock, barely being able to block it by hardening his left arm. Hajun then impaled Buddha with the spear tip of his axe. Assuming this was the end for Buddha, he asked for the god's final words. Buddha responded with the same thing he said at the start of the round: if the gods wouldn't protect the humans, he would, and he'd kill any god who was foolish enough to stand in his way.

He gripped his scythe and tried to push it further, shocking Hajun with his determination. Hajun kicked Buddha away before any further progress could be made, wondering how Buddha was still standing. Buddha picked up on the doubt, asking if Hajun was scared. This infuriated the berserker, who asserted that he was a supreme being, now that he had the perfect soil. He assured himself that he was stronger than his past self and it would not end up the same way again. Before he could respond to Buddha's taunting, the god insulted his strength, going on to say that he was weaker than Zerofuku. At first this angered Hajun, but the berserker went into another flurry of blows, trying to prove his strength to Buddha.

The high number of blows disorientated Buddha, Hajun then tried to cleave the Enlightened One in two, but he dodged. The enlightened one watched for an opening, trying for a one-shot comeback with Karma-Destroying Samsara Cycle.

Buddha started laughing, Hajun asked if he had gone insane before death. Buddha slowly got back to his feet, telling Hajun that he did not have what it took to confront his own weakness, he was unable to fight back against his inexperience and overcome, he could not do these things because he did not have puberty which is why he was weak. Zerofuku and Buddha combined their souls for a Völundr, turning Zerofuku's Misery Cleaver into the Great Nirvana Sword: Zero. Hajun was taken aback, as he complained about the light given off by the sword. The two fought fiercely, swiping at each other with their swords.

The chanting drove Hajun insane, as he tried one last ditch effort, attempting another Heaven Piercing Demon Drill from the ground, screaming at Buddha. The attack stopped inches from an unbothered Buddha's face, as Hajun began to disintegrate.

He further explained that Siegfried had been imprisoned in Tartarus for a long time, asking Brunhilde if there was any connection between him and Ragnarok. She abruptly told him no, to which Buddha continued to inquire, telling her not to play dumb with him. However, he was caught off guard when she revealed that she wasn't denying Buddha's question, but rather his assertion that Siegfried was her ex-boyfriend, correcting him by saying he wasn't her ex-boyfriend.

This left Buddha speechless, his lollipop falling about of his mouth, as Brunhilde swiftly left the room. Buddha expressed disgust and befuddlement, squatting down to pick up his lollipop as he noted that Brunhilde was taking her puberty issues too far.
