As Lady Louise celebrates her 17th birthday, learn more about the youngest granddaughter to The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh:

  • Lady Louise Alice Elizabeth Mary Mountbatten-Windsor was born on November 8, 2003, at Frimley Park Hospital, Surrey. She is the elder child of the Earl and Countess of Wessex.
  • The royal is the youngest granddaughter and second-youngest grandchild of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. She is also the first cousin of the future king, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge.
  • Through her father, she is the great-grandchild of King George VI and the Queen Mother, as well as the great-great-grandchild of King George V and Queen Mary.
  • Lady Louise is the older sister of James, Viscount Severn. They live with their parents at Bagshot Park in Surrey.
  • She was born prematurely and had to be delivered by emergency caesarean section due to placental abruption. Due to the significant loss of blood, she was transferred to the neo-natal unit at St George’s Hospital in London whilst her mother remained at Frimley Park as she was still unwell.
  • Lady Louise was baptised at the Private Chapel of Windsor Castle on April 24, 2004, by the Dean of Windsor. She was the last royal baby to wear the original christening gown before a replica was commissioned.
  • The royal was born with esotropia, a condition which causes both eyes to turn inwards, causing a ‘cross-eyed’ appearance. Louise underwent unsuccessful correction surgery in 2006, before further successful treatment in 2013. 
  • Louise has been educated in Windsor for her whole school career – first attending St George’s School, Windsor Castle, before going on to study at St Mary’s School, Ascot in 2017.
  • She is currently undertaking her A-Levels, and during a recent beach-cleaning outing in Portsmouth, she explained to reporters that she would be studying English, history, politics and drama.
  • Similar to her grandfather, Louise is a big fan of the sport carriage-racing. She is often pictured driving carriages around Windsor and has even competed at the Royal Windsor Horse Show, where she came in third place.
