DISCUSSION

Who do you predict will be the next woman inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame? This is not who you want to go in next, but who you PREDICT will be next.

On the modern side, I think they may be moving past the 80's and coming into the 90's now (at least in terms of women). I can see Trisha, then Shania, then Martina. (Alison Krauss might slide in there, but she'd need to build up support among the voters). Over on the veteran side, I can see Crystal first, maybe Rose Maddox after that. Nobody else seems to really be standing out for me in 3rd place. Possibly Lynn Anderson? Or maybe Jeannie Seely will get enough of a push someday.

Has there been any rhyme or reason to who's gotten in in previous years?

It can seem like just random selections to most folks, but if you really look close there is usually a reason for the picks they make. This year was Toby Keith & John Anderson. It's obvious why they chose Toby. John had been a name that was starting to get more momentum behind it over the last couple years, and then he was doing some campaigning as well. Last year they chose Tanya Tucker & Patty Loveless. Tanya had been deserving for a long time, and everyone knew this had to be her year. Patty was well respected and had the career numbers for induction, but wasn't really coming across anyone's radar. Until she did that masterful performance with Chris Stapleton at the CMA awards. That got people's attention. There usually is some sort of reason why an artist gets chosen in a specific year.

The trend right now seems to be focusing on the late 80s of significant women; The Judds and Patty Loveless. Tanya Tucker obviously debuted much earlier, but they caught up to her. I’d say Rosanne Cash and KT Olsin don’t have enough Nashville backing to get in just yet and I’m not sure if KT ever will. She had a great run, but it was only 3 years. However, it was one hell of a 3 years. Rosanne I could see getting in, but not for a bit longer.

Trisha Yearwood may be the next. She has strong industry support, but of all the late 80s early 90s women she probably has the most robust management team. Her cooking and furniture endeavors give her quite a bit of money behind her in addition to her music and not to mention Garth’s cash if it’s even needed. Trisha has built her own mini Martha Stewart empire.
