I have an 8320 and I just upgraded to an 8900. How EXACTLY do I switch everything over to the newer phone, including third party apps, while using the OLD SIM card? Do I use Device switch Wizard on Desktop Manager? Do I keep the SIM card in the 8320 until the DM finishes the Device Switch Wizard, or do I install it along with my 2GB micro SD card at the halfway point when it asks me to connect the new device? I need detailed step by step instructions on this. Some one please help.
    Please and thank you,
    -Matt

Last week I switched from the pearl flip 8220 to the 8900, here is what I did:

Using desktop manager I made a full backup of the old phone. I pulled the SD card and made a backup of that too manually (just in case).

Used the device switch or whatever it is called on DM....went through all the steps and when it asked me to plug in the new phone I put the SIM card and the SD card from the old phone into the new one...plugged it in and continued. It only took about 20 minutes and everything transferred over just fine.

    Hope that works for you.

Also it's very important to log into T-mobiles BIS site and in settings use the change device option and put your new PIN in then re-send the service books. this will cause your BIS service to push your mail/data to the new device and not still the old one....

Then on your device Options > Advanced options > Host routing table, then click the menu button and select register now.

When I switched from my 8320 to my 8900 I used advanced options in backup/restore to transfer only contacts, messages, calander data, password keeper and Wifi settings only from a recent back up.

Doesnt matter if you put the sim card in the middle lat or beginning. I have tried all ways. What I find easiest is to install the media card and sim card int the new device. Go the manage internet email icon on the device then update my pin. Then I take my old phone start the device switch. After your do it on the new device it will prompt you to update your pin for your BBM contacts. Thats it.

What about switching over 3rd party apps? What if some of those apps were meant for the 4.5 OS on my 8320? I'm getting an "app error 523 reset" message now.I'm confused. No matter how many times I do a battery pull, with or without the SD card in it, after I turn it on I get the error 523 meesage. How do I correct this all?
