Marie Lindberg Obituary

MARIE DONNELLY LINDBERG, a resident of Franke At Seaside, Mt. Pleasant, S.C., previously of Greenwich, passed away peacefully on August 2nd of congestive heart failure. Marie was born in Jersey City, N.J. She was the daughter of Catherine M. Desmond and Harold J. Donnelly. She had one sister, Joan Anita Donnelly. She attended St. Andrews Elementary School in Flushing New York, St. Agnes High School in College Point, N.Y., and graduated from Packard Business College, New York, NY. in l937. Marie married Charles E. Lindberg on May 14th 1949 at Our Lady Chapel in St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York, N.Y. They had two children, Suzanne and Robert. She worked for Exxon New York as an executive secretary for many years, taking time off to raise her family, and then returning to work. She retired in 1982. Marie was a devout catholic and a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church in Greenwich. She volunteered at her children's schools during their formative years, was a member of both the Ladies Auxiliary at the Nathaniel Witherell Home, and of the Greenwich Women's club. Marie served on the board of the Putnam Hill Cooperative Apartments, where she lived previously to moving to South Carolina. A devoted mother and grandmother, Marie personified the expression "unconditional love," giving of herself to her family and friends her entire life. Marie enjoyed all types of art and music and attended various concerts in Charleston, S.C. She had a life long passion for fashion, interior design and all things elegant. Marie is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Lindberg Flynn, her son-in-law, George D. Flynn, and her son, Robert J. Lindberg. Also surviving are two grandsons, Michael D. Flynn and Scott D. Flynn. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Lindberg in l998 and her sister, Joan Donnelly in 1997 There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on August 10, 2011 at at St. Michael the Archangel, 469 North Street, Greenwich at 11 am. There will be a vigil on Tuesday August 9, 2011 in the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch Street, Greenwich from 4 to 7 pm. Internment at the Putnam Cemetery will be private. Memorial donations may be made to The Friends of Nathaniel Witherell, Inc., 70 Parsonage Road, Greenwich, CT 06830.
