Phil Hoad Guardian It’s a bit sad that director Mark Burman needed two other writers to turn out this perfunctorily handled heap of metal-fatigued tropes. Rated: 2/5 Feb 27, 2023 Full Review Noel Murray Los Angeles Times “Ambush” has the structure of an old-fashioned two-fisted combat picture, but with too little actual combat. Feb 24, 2023 Full Review Todd Gilchrist Variety Smarter and more entertaining than one might expect from a small-scale, outwardly familiar story like this, “Ambush” feels like a throwback — mostly in a good way — to the ‘Namsploitation films that companies like Cannon churned out in the 1980s, Feb 24, 2023 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews Unimpressive low-budget cliched Vietnam war film. Rated: C+ Mar 3, 2023 Full Review Jeffrey Lyles Lyles' Movie Files Ambush doesn’t revolutionize the Nam movie experience, but it’s impressively staged with action scenes that work within the budget while leaning heavily on its cast to tell an engaging and unique story. Rated: 8.5/10 Feb 26, 2023 Full Review Jeffrey M. Anderson Common Sense Media Despite a creaky plot setup and a small budget, this Vietnam War story delivers commentary on the hypocrisy of war while still respecting the people who risk their lives to fight. David H First I spent 22 years active Army. Here are my comments. SC beret wearing captain looked like a Frenchman walking down a promenade in Paris. The adjustment string hanging down his back looked lame. The Captain arrives at the outpost and starts yelling at a corporal who seems to be in charge of 50 Engineers. More realistic would be at least a Sergeant First Class (E7) or higher. Second the dialog looked as if it was written by some Hollywood bozo that never spent one second with a soldier. Officers don't need to sound like Drill Sergeants talking to a recruits in basic training. Third, Meals Ready to Eat (MREs) weren't even invented until 1980. They had C-Rats in Vietnam. One of the Special Forces dudes actually pointed his weapon at the Captain when he handed him the package. So by the time I was 40 minutes into the film, I was turned off, like so many others probably did. Next time, please hire an actual soldier or Marine to advise the film. It will come out much better! Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/17/24 Full Review dapope s Movie takes place according a character in '66... Huey was a newer model, the 240 wasnt in service until the 70s, m16a2 didnt come about till the 80s, 30 round magazines. The Green Berets camo pattern is wrong too. Its things you may only notice if youre a seasoned keyboard warrior but. They get the item theyre searching for, which the US created, then start decoding it? (Also, the brig general says they will have a helo extract first thing which is apparently not for 12 hours, yet they can send a colonel immediately to go after it.) Only to lose said item, despite the brig gen at the beginning saying destroy it at all costs, capt mora throws it on the ground to yell at a private, capt mora also hides it instead of destroying it when they come under fire. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review Scott F Probably one of the worst war movies, or movies period, that I've ever seen. 1/10 for me. If they just would've gotten the basic military stuff right (uniforms, weapons, rank structure, tactics, any of it) it might've been a salvageable enterprise. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/15/23 Full Review Gareth D Low budget, no real action sequences, lots of muddy tunnels. So bad. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/09/23 Full Review Morten J What did I just watch? A low budget war movie? Nope.. That is an assault to the war genre. Bad actoring, no rational thinking and the sure did need some kind of military knowlegde. Veterans or what ever. They act like teenagers running around in tunnels and exploring like there was nobody Down there… Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews
