Who is Yoko Ono’s father?
Eisuke Ono was born on March 22, 1902, in Tokyo, Japan. He was the son of Son of Eijiro Ono and Tsuruko Saisho. Eisuke was a wealthy banker and former classical pianist, however, he was famous as the father of Yoko Ono. Eisuke came from a long line of samurai warrior-scholars. She was married to Isoko Ono.
Two weeks before the birth of their famous daughter Yoko Ono, Eisuke Ono was transferred to San Francisco, California, by his employer, the Yokohama Specie Bank. The father and daughter meet for the first time when the daughter was 2 years old. Aside from Yoko, Eisuke also had a son named Keisuke Ono with his wife Isoko Ono.

In 1937, a year after the birth of Keisuke, the family was transferred back to Japan. The family moved again to New York City in 1940. The next year, Eisuke was transferred from New York City to Hanoi, and the family returned to Japan.
Eisuke’s family remained in Tokyo throughout World War II and the fire-bombing of March 9, 1945, during which Yoko Ono was sheltered with other family members in a special bunker in Tokyo’s Azabu district, away from the heavy bombing. Ono later went to the Karuizawa mountain resort with members of her family.
Starvation was widespread in the aftermath of the Tokyo bombings. Eisuke’s family was forced to beg for food while pulling their belongings in a wheelbarrow. His wife who is now the breadwinner of the family brought a large number of goods to the countryside, where they were bartered for food per some stories.
She even traded a German-made sewing machine for 60 kilograms (130 lb) of rice to feed the family. Talking about those times Yoko Ono said in an interview – “we had very little to eat, you know? And then there was a little rice bowl that we would split between us or something.”
During this time, Eisuke Ono, who had been in Hanoi, was believed to be in a prisoner of war camp in China. Her daughter told Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! on October 16, 2007, that “He was in French Indochina, which is Vietnam actually…. in Saigon. He was in a concentration camp.”
She continued to say-“It was called French Indochina, Indochina, in those days. And he was in Saigon. And he was in a concentration camp. And my mother and I and my brother and sister, younger brother and sister, we were all in Japan. And we were sort of concerned about him.”

Yoko also said that before they split their bowl of rice her mother would give the rice bowl to her father’s photograph, like dedicating it to him so he would have something to eat. “And we were all just waiting.“- she said.
How did Eisuke Ono die?
Yoko Ono’s father Eisuke Ono passed away in 1975. He passed away at the age of 73. The cause of his death has not been made public. Yoko has also not revealed anything regarding the death of her father. As of 2023, Isoko Ono’s daughter Yoko Ono is 90 years old. He is the mother of two- Sean Ono Lennon and Kyoko Chan Cox.
