David Mattinson

David began his musical life as a viola player in the National Youth Orchestra whilst at Oundle. After attending Trinity College, Cambridge University (Choral Scholar, Law and History), he studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio. He won the Gold Medal in the Royal Over-Seas League music competition and the Peter Pears Award. 

He made his operatic debut with Scottish Opera and has sung principal roles with Opera North, Welsh National Opera, Garsington Opera and at the Royal Opera House. 

Oratorio performances include St Matthew Passion at the RFH, Elijah at the Royal Albert Hall with Sir David Willcocks, B Minor Mass in Ottawa with Trevor Pinnock, Hindemith Requiem in Singapore, Messiah with the Ulster Orchestra, Verdi Requiem in Winnipeg, Nielsen’s Sinfonia Espansiva with Neeme Jarvi at the Proms and Beethoven 9 with Vladimir Fedoseev in Tokyo. 

He has appeared in cabaret and is an experienced Lieder singer, performing at the Wigmore Hall and recording for BBC Radio 3.
