Soccer

Boys Soccer

Ballard took 3rd in State 3A playoffs Saturday after defeating Auburn Mountainview in a shootout 2-1 Saturday at Sparks Stadium. The team was 4-1 for its 2024 State Championship run, ultimately losing a defensive battle to Lake Washington 1-0 Friday in the Semifinals, before facing Auburn Mountainview in the consolation game. Softball

Metro Champions !! District Champions !! Top 8 in State !! More to great things to come for Ballard Softball in 2025!!

Softball Team

The Softball team went 2-2 in the State Tournament at Lacey Regional Athletic Complex, dropping its first game to Heritage 13-4 Friday morning. They rallied and won two more games in the afternoon, beating Stanwood 6-4 and Mt Spokane 17-3. On Saturday, the team dropped a close one to Juanita 3-2 to exit the tournament. Congratulations again on a great year to the Metro and District 2 3A Champs, led by Metro Coach of the Year Dale Griffith!

Congratulations to coach Dale Griffith who was recently named Metro Coach of the Year (Ballard Softball) and to his team which qualified for the state tournament. Also, eleven BHS players received All Metro honors!


Track & Field

Track & Field : The top six athletes from Districts will compete at the State Championships May 25 at Mount Tahoma High School, 4634 S. 74th St., Tacoma. Meet Information Details. All Tournament Pass Online at GoFan.

Results from May 18: Congratulations to the following track athletes finished in the top six at 3A SeaKing District 2 Championships May 18 at Renton Memorial Stadium and qualified for the State Championships May 23-25 at Mount Tahoma High School:

  • Marcos Staudenraus in the Ambulatory 100m, 200m and 400m; and in the Ambulatory Javelin, having won all these events at Districts. He also PR’d (Personal Record) in the Javelin at Districts.
  • Andrew Moore in the 110m Hurdles, after finishing 5th at Districts.
  • Jona Shull in the 300m Hurdles, after finishing 6th and PR’ing at Districts.
  • Jona Shull, Logan Plesko, Simon Colleran, and Alexander Davis in the 4x400m Relay, after finishing 3rd at Districts.
  • Cassidy Armstrong in the 1600m and the 3200m. The Metro Champion in both events finished 4th in the 1600 and 3rd in the 3200 at Districts.
  • Sydney Marion who finished 6th in the 100m Hurdles at Districts.
  • Mahlia Muwero, Annelise Glover, Anna Simpson and Vivian Goldberg in the 4x200m, the same event they came in 5th at Districts.
  • Madeleine Koenig in the Pole Vault, after finishing third at Districts.
  • Kate Dutton PR’d with her 3rd place finish in the Long Jump at Districts.
  • Hazel Engstrom in the High Jump and the Triple Jump. She PR’d with her 2nd place High Jump and 4th with her Long Jump at Districts.

More noteworthy highlights from Districts:

  • The Girls Team placed 4th at the District meet, only losing to the Metro Champions and the top two KingCo schools.
  • Vivian Goldberg finished 7th and PR’d in the 400m hurdles.
  • Matilda Barber PR’d with her 8th place finish in Shot Put.

Baseball

Baseball ended its amazing postseason State Tournament run, falling just short of Edmonds-Woodway 5-4 at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue. Congratulations to Chase Edwards (outfield), Truitt Madonna (catcher) and Adam Tripp (infield) on earning First Team All-Metro Honors. Dylan Wallblom was named Second Team All-Metro pitcher.


Boys Lacrosse

Lacrosse Team

The Boys Lacrosse team ended their season on Wed, facing off against Mercer Island in the 3A state semifinals. This season was marked by significant achievements and milestones:

  • Finished the season with a 12-5 record
  • Won Metro Public conference for the second consecutive year, a first for the program
  • A record number of 8 players selected for the All-Metro team
  • Reached the 3A State Semifinal for the first time in program history

Huge thank you to our seniors – Captain Carter Garrison (2nd team All-Metro x2), Captain Luke Berard (1st team All-Metro x2), Tom Delaney (2nd team All-Metro), and Henry Perkins! We wish them the best of luck in the future. 

Congratulations to all other All-Metro players: First Team: Spencer Bos (Jr, 1st Team), Jonny Sugg (Jr, 1st Team), Captain Owen Willis (Jr, 1st Team). Second Team: Captain Davis Brewster (Jr, 2nd Team), Aiden Gray (So, 2nd Team)

Awards: Offensive Player of the Year: Owen Willis, Defensive Player of the Year: Aiden Gray, V Most Improved: Sam Frech, JV MVP: Tom Geary, JV Most Improved: Callum Martinson, Keystone Award: David Brewster. Congratulations to all players for an outstanding season! Thank you to the community for your support. The team fielded both V and JV teams, and received incredible coaching and leadership from 5 coaches led by Ray Pryphun!

Spring Athletic Booster Club Trivia Night May 29

ABC Trivia Night fundraiser Wednesday, May 29 at the Ballard Elks Club (6411 Seaview Ave. N.W.). Doors open at 6 p.m.; trivia starts at 7 p.m. Gather your friends and family in teams of six for a fun evening testing team trivia skill! Also, the coaches want to regain their position as Trivia Night Champs!

Your registration fee is a donation to the Athletic Booster Club to further our mission to support and promote quality athletics at Ballard High School. Donations are fully tax-deductible. Volunteers are needed and service-learning opportunities will be available too. If you want to help, email Beth Sylves at bhsabcmemberships@gmail.com.

Volunteers are needed to sell 50/50 raffle tickets, pop & sell popcorn and other duties as assigned – suitable for students – Set Up 5 p.m. Volunteers help set tables and chairs, pop popcorn, decorate, help Beaver Gear set-up. During event, volunteers can participate – we’ll have extra to fill spots while playing.

Spring Athletic Wrap Up

Club Sports: Girls Ultimate Frisbee, Lacrosse

Club Sports: Boys Lacrosse, Girls Lacrosse, Ultimate Frisbee BUF, and also Ballard Unified Basketball (a partnership between Ballard High School and Special Olympics of WA.) are a valuable part of Ballard HS but are not WA Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) sanctioned sports. Team funding comes from players, families, and donors, instead of SPS and WIAA. Scholarships are available. Club sports signups are not via FinalForms, but on Team Websites.

Beaver Gear and Spirit Wear Breakdown

  • Athletic Booster Club (ABC) has Beaver Gear and spirit wear (shorts, baseball tee, bleacher seats, plaid flannels, socks, scarf and hats) on the ABC website with Duffle Bags offered at different times of the school year.
  • The DAM” BHS Student Store is run by Advanced Marketing Students in the BHS Activity Center (AC) during lunch and has great spirit items (long & short sleeve t-shirts, hoodies, hats, sunglasses, etc.) Follow updates on Instagram: @thedambhsstudentstore
  • Performing Arts (BPA) spirit merchandise can be found on the BPA Website and offered at different times of the school year.
