Chris Stuckmann ChrisStuckmann.com The Conjuring's use of tension, atmosphere, and suggestion prove that the scariest thing to an audience has nothing to do with what you see, but what you don't. Rated: B+ Apr 23, 2015 Full Review Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald Wan uses every horror cliche with blithe confidence. He knows no one is immune if the effects are sturdily built, and not too literal. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 14, 2014 Full Review Scott Marks San Diego Reader The trailer for The Conjuring is scarier than most horror features of recent vintage, and the feature makes good on the promise. Rated: 3/5 Oct 14, 2014 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh After years of lackluster releases from major studios, The Conjuring goes back to basics and manages to make something much more effective out of its formulaic story. It doesn't reinvent the wheel in any major way, but still largely thrilling. Rated: 3/5 Sep 20, 2023 Full Review Erick Estrada Cinegarage If we're really going to depart from the known horror of the first decade of the century... instead of conditioning emotions so crudely, we have to give the public a real point of view. So far Wan doesn't have it. [Full review in Spanish] Aug 31, 2023 Full Review Sara Clements Pajiba Ten years later, The Conjuring is still one of the best horror films. angelina always been my favorite horror movie! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/03/21 Full Review mC Definitely horror movie of the century Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/02/21 Full Review Farah A First off, the characters are so well-developed. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as Ed and Lorraine Warren are just amazing. They have such great chemistry and bring so much depth to their roles. You really feel for them and root for them throughout the movie. The haunted family also did a fantastic job of showing the terror and desperation they felt. What I loved most is how the tension builds up slowly and effectively. The scares are perfectly timed, making you jump without feeling like they’re just cheap tricks. The movie’s look is another highlight. The 1970s setting is so well done, and the haunted house feels like a character in itself with all its creepy corners and eerie atmosphere. It draws you into the story and makes everything feel more real. Overall, The Conjuring is a fantastic horror movie that I’d recommend to anyone who loves a good scare. The performances are great, the story is gripping, and it’ll stay with you long after it’s over. If you’re looking for a terrifying and engaging movie, this is the one to watch!! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/17/24 Full Review Me D Probably the greatest haunted house movie ever. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/09/24 Full Review Sawyer K The Conjuring is the perfect example of a disappointing, non-creative, generic horror movie with no aspects differentiating the film from others. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/13/24 Full Review Tyler E This I believe is one of the greats of horror movies. Whereas most movies in this genre take half the movie building the characters with no scare factor or any real interest at all. This movie starts with the suspense pretty quickly. This movie is a must-see if you enjoy a real horror movie. Also, I appreciated that they did not just throw raunchy scenes in to sell movies. That shows the story carried this movie to the finish line. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/12/24 Full Review Read all reviews
